Job description
Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Interior Components & Systems Engineer / Senior Engineer to join a world-class automotive interior engineering team. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience developing automotive interior systems from concept through production, with a strong understanding of design, manufacturing, supplier capabilities, quality, craftsmanship, safety, ergonomics, and vehicle launch.
This role will contribute to the packaging, engineering, release, and launch of interior components and systems while working closely with design, vehicle engineering, suppliers, manufacturing, and other cross-functional teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development of automotive Interior Components and Systems, including:
- Hard trim
- Soft trim
- Instrument panels (IP)
- Door trims
- Center consoles
- Headliners
- Other interior components and systems
- Support packaging, engineering, release, validation, and launch activities.
- Develop interior systems with a focus on luxury, craftsmanship, performance, safety, ergonomics, functionality, and manufacturability.
- Create, improve, and establish technical product specifications, requirements, and development timelines.
- Drive accelerated product development toward Start of Production (SOP).
- Collaborate with interior trim suppliers to ensure technical excellence, quality, cost, and on-time delivery.
- Work cross-functionally with design, marketing, vehicle engineering, manufacturing, quality, and other engineering teams.
- Perform CAD-based concept development, 2D/3D design, packaging layouts, and DFM studies.
- Apply manufacturing knowledge to ensure designs are optimized for production.
- Support vehicle and product launch activities.
- Identify technical issues, drive root-cause resolution, and ensure timely execution of engineering deliverables.
Required Qualifications
- 4+ years of experience as an Interior Components and Systems Development Lead or equivalent.
- Strong automotive interior engineering experience involving components such as IP, hard trim, soft trim, door trims, consoles, headliners, etc.
- Strong knowledge of automotive interior systems, industry benchmarks, trends, and supplier capabilities.
- Experience developing technical product specifications, requirements, and development timelines.
- Proficiency with 2D/3D CAD, packaging layouts, and DFM studies.
- CATIA V5/V6 preferred.
- Experience supporting a complete vehicle/product launch.
- Strong understanding of automotive manufacturing and supplier development.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
- Must be local to Arizona or Michigan.
Preferred / Advantageous Qualifications
- Experience completing a full automotive program cycle from concept through production launch.
- Strong knowledge of vehicle interior systems and demonstrated technical leadership.

- Excellent technical, problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
