PennEngineering is seeking a driven, self-motivated hunter who thrives on opening doors, penetrating new accounts, and winning new business to join our PEM Sales Team. As the Business Development Manager covering the Automotive Industry, you'll collaborate with teams that do truly amazing things.
The Business Development Manager is responsible for planning, developing, and directing the business development activities for the assigned customers as well as leading/guiding the engineering efforts necessary to support these business development activities. This will be accomplished through relationships with the customer base, knowing the product opportunities, and becoming the engineering focal point for the assigned customers. In addition, he/she supports the various brand strategies, including the support of the new product development projects that apply to the automotive market. This position requires significant experience in growing business within multiple industry OEMs and direct contact with design-responsible Tier 2 and Tier 3 suppliers through engineering development activities and relationships.

This position will be Hybrid. Every Monday is required to be on site in Shelby Township, MI for team meetings.
Tuesday - Friday will be remote for customer travel.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
  • Proactively identify, pursue, and open new accounts - penetrating Tier 2 and Tier 3 suppliers to win new business and grow PennEngineering's footprint.
  • Manage the engineering relationships and direct activities at assigned customers, for existing and new opportunities.
  • Direct the application engineering activities within the assigned customers to ensure that a tangible return on investment exists.
  • Maintain a team approach with the Regional Account Managers and Applications Engineers at assigned customers.
  • Specifying market requirements for current and future products by bridging the gap between Business Development, Regional Account Management, Operations, Engineering, New Product Development and Marketing.
  • Develop account plans in Salesforce for major accounts that include relationship matrix and document design cycles of the major OEM's and Tiers.
  • Work closely with Marketing and the brand leaders to ensure that business development efforts are in line with the strategy.
  • Coordinate engineering projects with the global sales and engineering teams, as appropriate through Salesforce.
  • Create customer development roadmap for his /her assigned customers that outline the implementation plan for the various products in our portfolio.
  • Understand current competitive solutions to build out business case to win on new design cycles.
  • Work closely with New Product Development to ensure key attributes are incorporated on potential developments of automotive focused products as well as products with cross market capability.
  • Prepare quarterly application slides and account summaries for internal stakeholders.
  • Gather market data around pricing strategy by product family.
  • Maintain data integrity, manage leads, opportunities, quotes and customer accounts through Salesforce.
  • Map sales opportunities, to identify design, purchasing, consumption locations and follow through to PO receipt.
  • Maintain awareness of and compliance with company policy and safety standards in performance of all job duties.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
  • 5+ years of direct contact experience with Tier 2 and Tier 3 suppliers
  • Self-starting, entrepreneurial drive with a proven track record of opening doors and penetrating new accounts to win business.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop market penetration plans and roadmaps.
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or Business, preferred. Proven leadership skills required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Travel 50%+
