Position Summary

The Field Applications Engineer supports Central Semiconductor's sales and customer engagement efforts by serving as a technical resource for customers, sales representatives, distributors, and internal teams. This role is responsible for understanding customer design requirements, recommending appropriate Central products and solutions, supporting pre- and post-sales technical discussions, and helping drive design activity, design wins, and long-term sales growth.


This position works directly with customers to evaluate applications, resolve technical questions, support component selection, and communicate customer requirements back to internal engineering, quality, operations, and sales teams. The role requires strong semiconductor product knowledge, application awareness, communication skills, and the ability to travel domestically and internationally to support customer meetings, trade shows, and technical engagements.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Identifies, develops, and maintains relationships with key customer technical decision makers, engineers, and influencers.
  • Works directly with customers to understand system-level and component-level design requirements and recommend appropriate Central products or solutions.
  • Provides pre- and post-sales technical support, including product selection, application guidance, component evaluation, board-level testing support, and troubleshooting.
  • Collaborates with sales, engineering, quality, operations, and production teams to address customer design challenges, technical questions, and product requirements.
  • Supports design-in and design-win activity by promoting Central products, tracking customer opportunities, and helping move technical opportunities through the sales cycle.
  • Develops and presents customer-facing technical materials, including presentations, application notes, design guides, technical papers, product documentation, and training materials.
  • Provides product and application-level training to sales teams, representatives, distributors, and customers.
  • Represents the company at customer visits, trade shows, symposiums, and other technical or industry events.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related technical field; equivalent directly related experience may be considered.
  • Years of experience: Five to seven years of experience in applications engineering, field applications engineering, product engineering, design engineering, or a related technical role.
  • Travel: This position requires both domestic and international travel approximately 30-50% of the time
  • Must be a US Person
  • Familiarity with and ability to interpret detailed customer specifications (electrical and mechanical)
  • Ability to perform basic electronic circuit analysis in order to determine component selection
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Experience preparing and delivering technical presentations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the discrete semiconductor industry, including diodes, rectifiers, transistors, MOSFETs, protection devices, or related components.
  • Prior customer-facing engineering experience in a field applications, technical sales, or sales engineering role.
  • Experience supporting design-in/design-win activity with OEMs, distributors, representatives, or strategic accounts.
  • Familiarity with failure analysis, quality investigations, corrective action support and customer product qualifications
  • Experience developing technical papers, application notes, training materials, product guides, or customer-facing technical documentation.
  • Experience presenting at trade shows, symposiums, technical conferences, or customer training events.
  • Experience dealing with customers in the Aerospace and Defense industry.
