How much do selling yachts jobs pay per year?

As of Sep 6, 2026, the average yearly pay for selling yachts in the United States is $60,826.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $33,500.00 and $74,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What does selling yachts involve?

Selling yachts involves assisting clients in buying or selling luxury boats, which includes tasks like listing yachts for sale, marketing them, arranging viewings, negotiating prices, and handling paperwork. Yacht brokers often work with high-net-worth individuals and need a strong understanding of boats, maritime regulations, and the luxury goods market. Building relationships, providing excellent customer service, and staying updated on market trends are also key aspects of the job.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a yacht sales broker?

To thrive as a Yacht Sales Broker, you need in-depth knowledge of yachts, strong sales acumen, and experience in luxury or marine sales, often supported by relevant licensing or certifications. Proficiency with customer relationship management (CRM) systems, yacht listing platforms, and marine documentation tools is commonly required. Outstanding interpersonal skills, negotiation ability, and a client-focused mindset help build trust and close high-value deals. These skills ensure effective navigation of complex transactions, successful client relationships, and consistent achievement of sales targets in a competitive market.

What are some common challenges faced when selling yachts, and how can I overcome them?

Selling yachts often presents challenges such as navigating lengthy sales cycles, managing complex negotiations, and meeting the specific needs of high-net-worth clients. Success in this role requires strong relationship-building skills, attention to detail, and in-depth knowledge of both the product and the market. Collaborating closely with marketing teams, marine surveyors, and legal professionals can help you provide comprehensive service and build client trust. Staying adaptable and proactive is key to overcoming obstacles and closing sales in this niche market.

What is the difference between Selling Yachts vs Yacht Broker?

While both Selling Yachts and Yacht Broker roles involve yacht sales, Selling Yachts typically refers to the direct sales process, often working for a dealership or private seller. A Yacht Broker acts as an intermediary, facilitating transactions between buyers and sellers. Both roles require similar credentials and industry knowledge, but their work environments and functions differ slightly, with brokers focusing on client representation and negotiations.

How much do selling yachts people make?

Sailing yacht salespeople typically earn a base salary plus commissions, with total earnings ranging from $50,000 to over $200,000 annually depending on experience, sales volume, and the value of yachts sold. Successful agents with strong client networks can significantly increase their income through commissions on high-value sales.

Is it hard to get into selling yachts?

Selling yachts is a specialized sales role that often requires knowledge of boats, strong interpersonal skills, and industry experience. Entry can be competitive, and many sellers start with related sales or maritime backgrounds, sometimes obtaining certifications or licenses to enhance credibility.

Job description

ABOUT MARCHAY

Marchay is a high-touch luxury travel company built around exceptional advice, access, and execution. Our core business serves members with highly personalized travel planning and support. Luxury Cruising will extend that standard to a broader audience, creating a distinct growth platform while maintaining the level of judgment and service associated with Marchay.

ROLE SUMMARY

Build a category-defining luxury cruise and yachting business within Marchay

Marchay is looking for an entrepreneurial luxury travel professional to build and lead our Luxury Cruising business. This is not simply a travel advisor role. It is an opportunity to create a business within Marchay: developing the product, building supplier relationships, attracting clients, advising them at a high level, and ensuring that every booking is executed to the standard expected of a luxury travel company.

The category spans the rapidly expanding world of luxury cruising and yacht-style travel, The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection, Four Seasons Yachts, Aman at Sea, Orient Express Sailing Yachts and other leading and emerging luxury operators. We want someone who is genuinely passionate about this product and understands that the best luxury cruise advisor does far more than book a cabin: they help clients choose the right ship, itinerary, suite, sailing, pre- and post-cruise experience, and overall trip.

Luxury Cruising will also be unique within Marchay: it will be the one Marchay travel product available to non-member. That makes this role both a travel role and a growth role. The Head of Luxury Cruising will have the opportunity to build a meaningful stand-alone business, with the full support of Marchay's brand, marketing resources, supplier relationships, technology, and service team.

Please note that this is a remote role.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Build the business. Develop Marchay Luxury Cruising from the ground up, including its commercial plan, product strategy, target customer, sales process, partnerships, and growth priorities.
  • Advise and convert clients. Serve as the category expert for prospective and existing clients: understand what they want, recommend the right product and itinerary, explain meaningful differences among operators, and convert interest into bookings.
  • Own the client experience. Remain accountable for the quality of the journey from initial inquiry through post-trip follow-up. You will be supported by Marchay's broader service resources, but you will set the standard and ensure that the details are executed at a very high level.
  • Develop deep supplier relationships. Build senior relationships across luxury cruise and yacht operators, representation companies, sales teams, and other relevant partners. Stay close to new ships, routes, product changes, promotions, preferred benefits, and opportunities that matter to clients.
  • Create demand beyond the Marchay membership. Build a pipeline of non-member clients through digital marketing, partnerships, referrals, business development, events, and other channels. You will have meaningful Marchay support, but you should be excited to own growth rather than wait for leads.
  • Make content a growth engine. Develop a point of view on the category and translate it into useful, compelling content. You do not need to personally shoot and edit every piece, but you should be comfortable creating content yourself and/or assembling and directing the resources required to produce it.
  • Meaningful experience in luxury travel, luxury cruising, yachting, or a closely related premium travel category. Direct experience selling or advising on luxury cruises is strongly preferred.
  • A strong working knowledge of the luxury cruise market, its leading operators, and the differences in product, service style, itineraries, accommodations, and client fit.
  • First-hand understanding of high-end travel advising and what it takes to execute complex trips for demanding clients.
  • A genuine enthusiasm for the category. We want someone who follows new ships and products because they are interested in them, not simply because it is part of the job.
  • An entrepreneurial orientation and a desire to build. You should be energized by an open field, a revenue goal, and the chance to create the playbook rather than inherit one.
  • Strong communication and sales instincts, with the confidence to advise sophisticated clients rather than simply take orders.
  • Comfort with digital marketing and content. You do not need to be a full-time marketer or content creator, but you need enough fluency to develop the strategy, work effectively with specialists, and judge what is good.
  • Strong supplier relationship skills and a willingness to travel for ship visits, familiarization trips, industry events, and relevant sailings.
  • Excellent judgment, organization, follow-through, and attention to detail.
  • Compensation: $100,000 base salary + commission, with total earning potential of $200,000+
  • Comprehensive Benefits: Fully covered medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) Plan: Access to our retirement savings program
  • Generous Time Off: Ample PTO plus company holidays to recharge and reset
  • Flexibility: Remote work environment with the ability to manage your schedule effectively
