Position Summary
Department: University Marketing and Communications
Reports To: Director of Web Services
Status: Non-exempt
The Web Developer is responsible for managing and maintaining the university web presence. This position works closely with other members of the University Marketing and Communications team to ensure consistency across various web sites produced by the university, as well as synergy with other marketing channels.
Essential Functions
  • Represent the university and manage a professional and active relationship with students, faculty, staff, and guests to understand the university's unique needs.
  • Contribute to the successful completion of UMC's marketing responsibilities, working with many departments across the organization.
  • Oversee the university web presence as a whole and think strategically about how individual web projects affect other areas of the university and are integrated with other marketing projects.
  • Work closely with the Director of Web Services and Web Content Manager within the larger context of the UMC team.
  • Responsible for creating new applications for third party platforms such as Facebook
  • Demonstrate a commitment to serving and inspiring students and colleagues in a context of a Christian University, integrating your Christian faith into your role and responsibilities.

Qualifications
Required:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in related field
  • Two years of experience as a web designer/developer
  • Ability to communicate effectively and courteously with the public, faculty, staff, and students
  • Willingness to implement new ideas that support the overall brand
  • Ability to think creatively and manage multiple projects at once
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and make prompt decisions regarding issues that arise
  • Understanding of web services and ab ability to source and manage freelance developers
  • Understanding of the importance of higher education marketing
  • Ability to work with a thorough understanding of Drupal
  • Knowledge of PHP, Javascript, HTML, and CSS
  • Knowledge of Linux
  • Knowledge of photoshop and basic graphic design skills
  • Competence in creating graphics for the web using Photoshop
Preferred:
  • Master's degree in related field
  • Three years or more with web development experience, preferably in a fast-paced marketing-driven environment
  • Minimum two years of programming experience writing custom modules for Drupal
  • A well-rounded knowledge of web graphics production and use of social media
  • Experience with Slate
Environmental Conditions:
  • Indoors in a normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, fumes, vibrations, and temperature changes at least eighty percent (80%) of the time.
  • Frequent computer use at a workstation, up to eight hours per day.
  • Frequently work at a fast pace with unscheduled interruptions.
  • Drive personal or University vehicles to appointments.
  • Public contact position requiring professional apparel, personal hygiene, and grooming.
Physical Demands:
  • This position typically functions indoors in an office environment with light to moderate noise associated with business office equipment. The position may involve travel for meetings and events.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: remain in a stationary position 80 % of the time, be able to move about inside the office to access file cabinets/office machinery etc., operate a computer and keyboard and other office productivity machinery such as calculators/copy machines/printers. The employee is occasionally required to position self to reach items on the floor and in high cabinetry.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Employee must be able to communicate with others to exchange information including both over the telephone and in-person communication with callers and community members and be able to read a computer screen and paper documents.

University Information
$54,080 to $69,680 is the annual starting salary for this role and reflects what Fresno Pacific University reasonably expects to pay for this position. Actual compensation may vary based on qualifications, experience, and internal equity. In addition to compensation, FPU offers a competitive benefits package.
