Location: Dallas / Fort Worth, TX and Washington, D.C. โ€“ Up to 60% business travel both domestically and worldwide.
Reports to: Vice President of Service, Banknote Solutions
Standard Schedule: Friday, 8 a.m. โ€“ 5 p.m. (local time). Must be willing to work a 2-shift rotation and participate in a regular on-call (emergency standby) schedule to support 24/7 customer operations.
FLSA Status: Non-exempt/Hourly
Compensation: $45 โ€“ $56 per hour (Depending on experience and specific security certifications)

Job Responsibility: The Service Technician - Mechanic travels to customer locations (including government printing facilities and central banks) to install, maintain, upgrade, troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair complex mechanical components and high-precision systems on Koenig & Bauer high-security printing presses. This includes hydraulic and pneumatic circuits, lubrication systems, and intricate gear/drive mechanisms. The Service Technician interacts directly with the customer in high-security environments, listening to their needs and effectively communicating technical information. You must be able to develop a plan of action to address customer issues with an emphasis on extreme mechanical precision to minimize downtime in critical production environments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoot mechanical components including hydraulic and pneumatic circuits on Banknote Solutions presses and peripheral equipment.

  • Perform and train scheduled Preventive Maintenance (PM) and Health Check services on high-security printing presses, including comprehensive inspections, lubrication, filter changes, and the replacement of wear parts to ensure machine longevity and reliability.

  • Execute and elaborate detailed PM and Health Check checklists and provide customers with technical reports regarding the mechanical health and future maintenance requirements of their equipment.

  • Operate various models and sizes of security printing presses in order to diagnose mechanical performance and timing issues.

  • Read and interpret complex mechanical drawings, assembly blueprints, and pneumatic/hydraulic schematics.

  • Perform high-precision mechanical adjustments, including leveling, aligning, and timing of complex gear trains and cylinder systems.

  • Install, repair and replace mechanical assemblies such as bearings, shafts, rollers, and drive belts using specialized precision tools.

  • Diagnose and repair issues within the main mechanics and sheet transfer systems.

  • Use precision measuring instruments (e.g., dial indicators, micrometers, laser alignment tools) to ensure tolerances meet strict security printing standards.

  • Provide rapid response during on-call rotations to resolve critical mechanical failures outside of standard business hours.

  • Adapt to 2-shift operations (Day/Evening) at customer sites during major installations, overhauls, or peak service periods.

  • Contact Koenig & Bauer Europe regarding machine-specific mechanical tolerances and engineering specifications.

  • Adjust sensors, mechanical switches, grippers and cam followers per strict setting instructions.

  • Perform root cause analysis for mechanical failures and wear patterns using service manuals and internal resources.

  • Determine and execute action plans for repairs, including identifying heavy-duty parts and coordinating with global logistics for specialized tool shipments.

  • Deliver world-class customer service, maintaining high levels of discretion and professionalism required for high-security sites.

  • Fulfill the obligation of the original service call and see the project through to completion, including worldwide assignments and technical training sessions.

  • Complete accurate and timely records (parts, time, expenses, work performed).

  • Adhere to all customer-site policies, especially strict security protocols and safety policies regarding heavy machinery.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED-equivalent required; post-high school degree or certification in a technical field (Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, or Millwright/Industrial Mechanic) is highly preferred.

  • Experience: Minimum three to five years related work experience in industrial mechanical maintenance, heavy machinery manufacturing, or high-precision engineering. Previous experience working specifically with printing presses (offset, intaglio or screen printing) is ideal and highly preferred.

  • Computer Skills: Basic proficiency in Microsoft Windows and business systems (ERP/Service software). Basic use of e-mail and spreadsheets.

  • Team Spirit & Cooperation: Strong interpersonal skills with a focus on teamwork and collaboration. Ability to work effectively with international teams and build trust-based relationships with customers.

  • Instructional Ability: Strong pedagogical skills with the ability to simplify complex technical and quality concepts for diverse international audiences.

  • Global Mobility: Ability and willingness to travel with frequent domestic and international air travel, including consecutive overnight stays and weekends to accommodate customer needs.

  • Legal Requirements: Valid motor vehicle license and a valid Passport (or ability to obtain one).

  • Security Clearance: Ability to pass rigorous background checks for security clearances required for government and central bank facilities.

  • Physical Demands: Ability to meet physical demands: continuous standing (5.6+ hours), working in noisy/industrial environments, and frequent bending, pushing, and pulling.
