Job description
The Physical Security Manager is responsible for the operational management and execution of the credit union's physical security program. Reporting to the Director of Security, this position oversees daily security operations, Security Operations Center activities, security systems, and assigned personnel to help ensure the safety and security of associates, members, facilities, cash assets, and the organization's reputation.
The Physical Security Manager implements security strategies, policies, and procedures established by the Director of Security and serves as the primary operational leader for physical security activities across the organization. This position partners closely with departments including Fraud, Risk, Information Security, Human Resources, Facilities, and Operations to identify vulnerabilities, mitigate risks, and ensure effective security practices throughout the credit union.
Security Strategy, Governance & Program Leadership
- Implement physical security policies, standards, procedures, and initiatives established by the Director of Security.
- Manage day-to-day security operations and supervise assigned security personnel and Security Operations Center activities.
- Monitor security program effectiveness and recommend operational improvements.
- Support organization-wide security awareness and compliance efforts.
- Provide operational guidance to managers and associates on physical security matters.
- Act on behalf of the Director of Security when designated and provide leadership during their absence.
Physical Security Operations & Systems
- Manage the daily operation of the Security Operations Center, including monitoring activities, incident response, and personnel coordination.
- Oversee administration of access control systems, surveillance platforms, alarm systems, visitor management tools, and related technologies.
- Coordinate equipment maintenance, testing, repairs, upgrades, and vendor support activities.
- Monitor security operations across branch, ATM, and administrative locations to ensure compliance with established standards.
- Conduct facility reviews and recommend security enhancements as needed.
- Support implementation of physical security requirements for new facilities, remodels, relocations, and ATM deployments.
Risk Management, Assessments & Compliance
- Conduct security assessments, inspections, and vulnerability reviews across credit union facilities.
- Identify risks involving robbery, burglary, workplace violence, unauthorized access, fraud, and other security concerns.
- Recommend corrective actions and assist with implementation of approved mitigation plans.
- Support internal audits, examinations, and regulatory reviews related to physical security.
- Maintain documentation supporting assessments, incidents, investigations, and compliance activities.
- Partner with internal departments to address operational security concerns and emerging threats.
Incident Response & Investigations
- Respond to and coordinate security incidents, threats, emergencies, and investigative activities.
- Manage robbery response procedures, duress protocols, workplace violence response, and employee safety initiatives.
- Coordinate with law enforcement agencies, emergency responders, and internal stakeholders during incidents.
- Conduct investigations and gather evidence, documentation, video recordings, and other relevant information.
- Perform post-incident reviews and implement approved corrective actions.
- Escalate significant incidents and emerging threats to the Director of Security and other leadership as appropriate.
Security Awareness & Organizational Readiness
- Deliver security training and awareness programs for associates and management.
- Reinforce compliance with security policies, procedures, and operational standards.
- Provide guidance regarding robbery response, suspicious activity, workplace violence prevention, and emergency procedures.
- Support organizational preparedness through exercises, drills, and response planning activities.
- Assist with development and maintenance of security procedures, reference materials, and training resources.
Vendor, Law Enforcement & Stakeholder Relationships
- Maintain day-to-day working relationships with law enforcement agencies, monitoring providers, and security vendors.
- Coordinate vendor service activities, maintenance schedules, and support requests.
- Monitor vendor performance and communicate service concerns and improvement opportunities.
- Collaborate with Fraud, Risk, Information Security, Human Resources, Facilities, and Operations teams to address security issues.
- Maintain effective communication with associates and management regarding security-related activities and concerns.
Reporting, Analytics & Continuous Improvement
- Prepare reports regarding incidents, investigations, assessments, inspections, and Security Operations Center activity.
- Monitor trends and identify opportunities to improve security controls, processes, and operational effectiveness.
- Track corrective actions and verify resolution of identified vulnerabilities.
- Support preparation of management reports and presentations related to security risks and program performance.
- Assist with implementation of security initiatives, technology enhancements, and continuous improvement efforts.
- Perform other duties as assigned, ensuring accountability and alignment with organizational objectives.
- Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Security Management, Business Administration, Risk Management, or a related field preferred.
- CPP, PSP, or another relevant security certification preferred or willingness to obtain.
- 5+ years of experience in physical security, corporate security, law enforcement, or a related field.
- Prior supervisory or management experience preferred.
- Experience conducting investigations, incident response, and security assessments.
- Experience with access control, video surveillance, alarm systems, and security-related technologies.
- Financial institution, banking, credit union, or other regulated industry experience preferred.
- Strong operational leadership and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of physical security principles, practices, and technologies.
- Ability to identify risks and implement practical security solutions.
- Strong investigative, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Effective verbal, written, and training communication skills.
- Ability to establish productive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
- Willingness to maintain a flexible schedule and respond to security-related priorities as needed.
