Introduction
The Department of Health Services (DHS) , Wisconsin Resource Center (WRC) is recruiting to fill a DHS Security Director vacancy.
This position will be assigned to work from 7:45 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday.

Position Summary
As the DHS Security Director, you will plan, implement, and administer the security program and security department budget of WRC, a 443-bed male and female maximum security correctional treatment facility. In addition to supervising Captains, Sergeants and Officers, you will serve as the dotted line supervisor for all Institution Unit Supervisors regarding security matters on units and provides technical oversight to Institution Unit Supervisors on complex security situations.
Additional duties include:
  • Responsibility for investigations and security programming for all areas of the institution, which include complex security systems, due process, central control, armory, key control, perimeter security, visiting program, reception, emergency response, transportation, mail and property processing, entrance processing, among other specific security components of the overall functioning of the facility.
  • Consulting and making recommendations to architects for new construction regarding security issues.
  • Acting as the collaborative WRC liaison/representative to the Department of Corrections Security Chief and Security Directors.

Salary Information
The starting pay for this position is up to $58.75 per hour (approximately $122,200 per year), depending on qualifications, plus excellent benefits. A 24-month Career Executive trial period is required.
Pay for current or former state employees is set based upon the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction. This position is in pay schedule and range 81/02.
Job Details
All applicants who may be appointed to this position will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.
All appointees will be required to receive a TB test, which will be administered by WRC or medical personnel approved by the facility within 30 days of the start date.
DHS does not sponsor work visas for this position, thus, in compliance with federal law, selected candidates will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire. DHS is not an E-Verify employer nor a STEM-OPT eligible employer.
Qualifications
Minimally qualified applicants will have all of the following:
  • Experience in a supervisory role (e.g., hiring, assigning/reviewing work of subordinates, consulting on performance, discipline, conflict management, etc.)
  • Experience in a leadership role directing security operations.
  • Experience conducting staff and inmate investigations.
  • Experience supporting treatment programs in a secure facility (i.e., Jail, Prison, secure mental health facility, etc.)
Well-qualified applicants will also have one or more of the following:
  • Experience supervising subordinate supervisors.
  • Training or experience leading compliance with Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) standards.
  • Training or experience with quality improvement methods and measures (e.g., measuring effective change, establishing metrics, etc.) .
  • Experience or training in managing and balancing a budget.
  • Experience collaborating within a multi-disciplinary team environment with competing interests.
