JOB TITLE: Security Manager
DEPARTMENT: Facilities Management
SUPERVISOR: Director of Facilities

JOB SUMMARY/SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY:
Under the supervision of the Facilities Director, the Security Manager is responsible for the operation, organization and personnel for the Security department. Responsibilities include conducting investigations of theft, incidents, unlawful occurrences and accidents and ensure proper outcomes including prosecution as necessary. Develop and enforce parking policies and procedures for staff and visitors. Serve as first responder in case of security incidents, fire, traffic accidents and/or hazards. Assure the security and safety of persons and property on the premises of WTH Dyersburg Hospital. Have daily interaction with people of all ages ranging from infant to geriatrics. Conduct periodic inspections of the hospital and property and affiliates located on the campus and assist with the security needs of off campus businesses as requested. Act as the organization's liaison with law enforcement. Directly impacts all security related activities for West Tennessee Healthcare Dyersburg Hospital and all properties located on campus. The Manager exercises final disposition of situations related to the safety and security of staff, visitors and patients. The Manager is responsible for the twenty four (24) hour/seven (7) days/week operations, implementation, development and expansion of the above mentioned departments.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Assumes all department responsibilities of the Safety/Security Department in the absence of the
Director.
2. The Security Manger plans work schedules and assigns duties for all Security and works closely with
Law Enforcement personnel in all issues involving hospital business.
3. Responsible for communicating and training staff in new and/or revisions of existing policies and
procedures.
4. Observes personnel in the performance of their duties and determines their training needs.
Provides recommendations for changes in techniques or procedures to improve performance. Provides
in-service programs for the department, which includes examinations of department procedures,
reviewing and updating the departmental policy and procedure manual, and reviewing the equipment
needs of the department.
5. Responsible for interviewing and making recommendations for hiring applicants.
6. Enforces work rules, recommends merit pay increases, enforce disciplinary action when necessary.
Monitors attendance and hours worked records. Assist with preparation of bi-weekly time and
attendance duties and prepares annual evaluations of personnel, based on observation of work
performances.
7. Reviews daily security incident reports and other departmental forms and follows procedures of
reporting system. Conducts follow up investigations on all incidents. Analyze security incident reports
to determine trends in investigations and implement corrective measures.
8. Assists department heads and other administrative personnel on various security matters that affect their
particular areas of responsibilities.
9. Completes monthly administrative security reports.
10. Perform related activities and responsibilities as defined by the Director.
11. Ensures boiler rounds and monitoring is being conducted after hours, on weekends and holidays.
12. Ensures monitoring of all security cameras.
13. Develops financial recommendations for security plan upgrades to cameras, recorders, badge readers
etc... as needed.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
- B.S. degree in Criminal Justice or related area preferred
LICENSURE, REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION:
- Must possess a valid Tennessee Drivers License
- State certification for Security Guard preferred
EXPERIENCE:
- 4 years of Security Supervision related experience and back ground preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Must have a high level of communication skills and be able to effectively function with dignity,
maturity, and initiative.
- Good writing and administrative, along with loss prevention knowledge/skills are necessary.
- Operational knowledge of access control and security camera systems along with ability to
design systems for new applications.
INTERPERSONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Interpersonal skills to interact effectively with the public, the medical community, patients,
families, employees, and all law enforcement agencies in order to exchange information, conduct
inquires and safe guard the security of persons and property on a continuous basis.
- Verbal and written communication skills with regulatory agency representatives.
- Contributes to a positive work environment and the overall team effort of the department
DIRECTION/SUPERVISION REQUIREMENTS:
- Responsible for the supervision of Security Supervisors and Security Officers.
- Ability to assign and monitor work for the Security Shift Supervisors and Security Officers.
- Ability to provide instruction and assistance with safety and security related issues.
- Advice personnel on investigative practices and procedures essential to the security mission.
- Must be able to assume responsibilities of the Safety/Security Department in the absence of the
Director or Security.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Occasional physical effort is required.
- Occasional lifting/moving of people up to 200 - 225 lbs.
- Physical demands can include a HEAVY WORK rating with exertion of up to 100 lbs of force
occasionally, up to 50 lbs of force frequently, and up to 20 lbs of force constantly.
- Standing, walking, climbing stairs/ladders, occasional running and or lifting up to 50 lbs.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
- Occasional interaction with patients, guests, and co-workers.
- Requires occasional exposure to contagious diseases, body fluids, and hazardous materials, which
require special procedures.
- Occasional outside exposure during all types of weather conditions.
- Standard office environment.
OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Understands and adheres to West Tennessee Healthcare's compliance standards as they appear in the Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct, and Conflict of Interest Policy.
- Assumes responsibility for insuring continued professional growth.
