Description

Position: Volunteer Coordinator

Pay: $20/hr


Overview:


The Volunteer Coordinator will have the primary responsibility of recruiting, training, and supporting volunteers who serve as tutors, mentors, and activity leads/facilitators during Middle School Success programming on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The Volunteer Coordinator is a member of the Middle School Success team, and also contributes regularly to helping students develop the skills to successfully navigate middle school, supports their transition to high school, and empowers them to identify and connect their interests to decisions about college and beyond. Secondary responsibilities may include supporting Steppingstone program staff in other departments such as translation (if applicable), data input, logistics and communication.


This is a part-time, seasonal position during the academic year from September through the end of May. The position is 20 hours per week. Saturday hours are required from 8:00am - 3:00pm in-person. Wednesday hours are required from 4:15 pm-6:30 pm remotely. Remaining hours during the week are flexible.


Responsibilities: 

  • Facilitate the recruitment process for volunteers as needed. This will include general outreach, attending volunteer/opportunity fairs, and reaching out to community partners that facilitate volunteer recruitment
  • Screen and interview prospective volunteers 
  • Plan, lead and  host onboarding training for volunteers with support from Middle School Success Advisors 
  • Coordinate office hours
  • Collaborate with a team of Advisors to help match Scholars with volunteers for the Saturday and Wednesday tutoring/study hall
  • Manage and facilitate portions of  study hall sessions to set up Scholars with tutoring and other programming events (ie college workshops, community conversations, etc)
  • Serve as the liaison between Steppingstone staff and volunteers by communicating regularly with volunteers and maintaining the volunteer database.
  • Conduct mid-year and end-of-year volunteer debrief. 
  • Support the Middle School Success team by assisting with site operations such as attendance tracking, phone calls to families, supervision, etc.
  • Help other teams with occasional coordination as time permits

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated commitment to educational access and success
  • Cross cultural sensitivity and experience working with people of different backgrounds and perspectives
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Strong time management combined with initiative and flexibility 
  • Proficiency with Zoom and Google Drive preferred
  • Experience as an effective team member in a collaborative environment

Education:

  • Completion of one full academic year of undergraduate studies is requiredÂ
