Description

American Traveler is hiring a Progressive Care Unit RN for a mixed acuity surgical oncology floor requiring 2 years of acute care experience with at least 1 year in PCU.

Details
  • Work on a busy mixed-acuity Surgical Oncology unit caring for both PCU and Med Surg patients
  • 16-week assignment on night shift (3x12 hours, 19:00-7:30)
  • May be assigned a 12-hour Day/Night rotating schedule with shift assignments reviewed every 4-week period
  • Patient ratios typically 1:4, occasionally 1:5
  • Variable weekend requirements based on unit needs
  • No set or blocked scheduling offered
  • All travelers may be required to float within their scope of practice
  • Adult and geriatric patient population
  • Cares for surgical oncology patients including breast, thyroid, melanoma, hepatobiliary, colorectal, and plastics/reconstructive cases
  • Performs chemotherapy administration, blood transfusions, IV antibiotics, and management of oncologic emergencies including cytokine release syndrome
  • Manages insulin and heparin drips
  • Strong emphasis on infection prevention protocols and fall prevention
  • Utilizes Epic EMR
Requirements
  • Active OH or compact RN license required in hand at time of submission
  • BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • ONS Chemo certification preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of current, consistent acute care nursing experience within the last 12 months
  • At least 1 year of PCU experience required
  • Oncology experience preferred but not required
  • Epic charting experience required
  • Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
  • 2 professional references required, with at least 1 from a Manager/Director or formal leadership role and the second acceptable from a Charge RN (no coworker references accepted)

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to surgical oncology patients including monitoring for oncologic emergencies and managing complex drip therapies
  • Come with a willingness to learn and grow your nursing practice
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Local candidates are accepted at the same rate
  • Former employees are eligible for a travel assignment once they have been away from the facility for 6 months or more
  • Current employees are ineligible to be hired as a traveler at this health system
  • RTO must be submitted with the application and built into the contract, limited to 7 days or less
  • Candidates must complete Ohio fingerprinting requirements urgently upon signing the contract, either by traveling to an Ohio fingerprinting location or completing a mailed fingerprinting packet
