Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Medical ICU position requiring 2 years of current critical care experience and prior travel assignment history.

Details
  • MICU setting caring for adult and geriatric patients
  • Common diagnoses include oncologic emergencies, COPD, pneumonia, ARDS, GI bleed, neuromuscular disease, drug overdose, oncologic treatment complications, pulmonary hypertension, autoimmune disorders, and sepsis
  • Manages hemodynamically compromised patients requiring mechanical ventilation, pulmonary artery catheter placement, CRRT, arterial pressure monitoring, cardiac monitoring, chest tubes, central venous catheters, chemotherapy administration, complex medication regimens, clinical trials, and plasmapheresis
  • Patients may require bronchoscopy or endoscopy for underlying pulmonary and gastrointestinal conditions
  • 13-week assignment on night shift, 3x12-hour shifts from 19:00-07:30
  • Rotating D/N schedule possible, with shift assignments reviewed every 4-week scheduling period based on department needs
  • 1:2 patient ratio
  • Uses Epic for computerized charting
Requirements
  • Active OH or compact RN license required in hand at time of consideration
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of current acute care experience in the MICU specialty, consistently within the last 12 months
  • Prior travel nursing experience required
  • Epic charting experience required
  • Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
  • Skills required include IV starts, ventilator management, arterial line management, central line care, PICC line management, BiPAP/CPAP management, ABG interpretation, suctioning, continuous IV sedation, titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and IV insulin protocols
  • Experience managing multisystem organ dysfunction/failure required
  • Two professional references required, with at least one from a Manager/Director or formal leadership role and the second from a Charge RN; coworker references not accepted
Additional Information
  • Provide critical care nursing to hemodynamically compromised adult and geriatric ICU patients
  • Perform advanced respiratory, renal, neurological, and medication management interventions as part of daily care
  • First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
  • Former employees are eligible for a travel assignment once they have been away from the facility for 6 months or more
  • Current employees of Ohio State University hospital locations are ineligible for travel positions
  • Local candidates are accepted at the same rate
  • RTO must be submitted and built into the contract, limited to 7 days or less
  • Candidates must complete Ohio fingerprinting requirements urgently after signing the contract, either by traveling to an in-state location or completing a mailed fingerprinting packet
