Traffic Safety Technician – Permanent Installation & Pavement Marking (Seasonal)

Traffic Safety Services (TSS) is seeking dependable, hardworking, and safety-focused Traffic Control, Permanent Installation & Pavement Marking Technicians to join our growing team. If you enjoy working outdoors, operating equipment, and being part of a team that helps keep roadways safe, this is the opportunity for you.

This is a seasonal, travel-based position that supports roadway construction and maintenance projects through traffic control, permanent sign installation, and pavement marking operations.

Pay

  • Starting Wage: $20.00 per hour
  • Prevailing Wage: $30.80–$34.30 per hour when working on qualifying prevailing wage projects

What You'll Do

  • Safely operate company vehicles while traveling to and from job sites.
  • Deliver, install, maintain, remove, and transport traffic control devices for roadway construction projects.
  • Assist with the layout, installation, and application of pavement markings.
  • Install and maintain permanent traffic signs and related roadway safety devices.
  • Load, secure, transport, and unload trucks, trailers, equipment, and materials independently.
  • Operate forklifts, skid steers, small grinders, and other equipment used in roadway operations.
  • Change grinding heads and perform routine equipment adjustments.
  • Perform minor repairs and preventative maintenance on equipment as needed.
  • Wash, clean, inspect, fuel, and stock vehicles, trailers, and equipment.
  • Organize and maintain shop, yard, and inventory areas.
  • Safely lift, carry, and position traffic control devices, signs, and other construction materials.
  • Assist other departments as needed to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
  • Follow all company policies, DOT regulations, and established safety procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record required; CDL preferred.
  • Previous experience operating a forklift and skid steer is preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret traffic control plans, pavement marking plans, maps, and project specifications.
  • Ability to safely operate trucks, trailers, and equipment, including hooking up and backing trailers.
  • Basic math skills, including the ability to accurately read a tape measure.
  • Reliable means of communication to receive work schedules and project updates.
  • Strong work ethic with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Positive attitude, excellent organizational skills, and commitment to safety.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Willingness to work varying schedules, overtime, weekends, and travel as project needs require.

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly lift and carry up to 50 pounds and occasionally more than 100 pounds with appropriate assistance or equipment.
  • Frequently stand, walk, climb, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, balance, and reach throughout the workday.
  • Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Safely work around moving traffic, heavy equipment, machinery, dust, fumes, and airborne particles.
