Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Complies with District and industry related safety policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure the safety of self, co-workers, parkways users and the community.
  • Parkways related maintenance including but not limited to care of plant material, maintenance of parkway landscape, landscape projects, various equipment operation, minor construction projects, litter control, weed eradication, irrigation, snow removal, and assistance with special events.
  • Perform general landscaping and grounds maintenance tasks.
  • Work alongside experienced staff to keep the grounds safe, healthy, and well‑maintained.
  • Participates in special events and assists as needed with other sections within the Park, Recreation and Open Space Department.
  • Works with other divisions within the department as needed and assigned.
  • Complies with District and industry related safety policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure the safety of self, co-workers, park users and the community.
  • May operate and maintain specialized equipment and tools as listed below under “Tools and Equipment Used”.
  • Effective, tactful verbal and written communication skills.
  • Fulfills alternate duties and responsibilities as required or assigned by the Supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Some experience with irrigation or lawn care.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Follow directions from lead techs occasionally working independently to complete daily activities according to work schedule.
  • Lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time, and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions.
  • Effective verbal and written communication.
  • Use equipment and tools properly and safely.
  • Understand, follow, and transmit written and verbal instructions.
  • Establish effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, and the public.
  • Represent the District in a professional manner, exemplifying integrity and excellence always.
  • Maintain a good driving record.
Supervision Received

Works under the direct supervision of the Parkways Supervisor and other Technicians.

Work Schedule

This is a 40 hour per week seasonal position generally working between 6:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Work schedules will vary depending on weather conditions, projects, events, programs, meetings, and staffing levels, and will include some evening, early morning, weekend, and overtime hours. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of the job.

Tools and Equipment Used

Lawn and landscape equipment including pickup truck with automatic transmission, trailers, tractors, mowers, aerators, edgers, weed trimmers, seeders, sprayers, spreaders, utility vehicles, blowers, high pressure washer, pruning tools, miscellaneous hand and power tools for turf maintenance, carpentry, and painting. Cell phones, computers, and general office equipment.
