Seasonal Postpartum information

What is a seasonal postpartum?

Seasonal postpartum jobs are temporary positions that provide support to mothers and families during the postpartum period, often coinciding with peak birth seasons. These roles may include postpartum doulas, lactation consultants, or newborn care specialists who assist with physical recovery, newborn care, and emotional support. Seasonal demand for these services can rise around holidays or during times with higher birth rates, making these jobs especially important for ensuring new parents receive the help they need.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a seasonal postpartum nurse?

To thrive as a Seasonal Postpartum Nurse, you need a solid background in maternal-newborn nursing, a current RN license, and experience with postpartum care. Familiarity with hospital charting systems, infant monitoring equipment, and breastfeeding support tools is typically required. Compassion, strong communication, and the ability to provide emotional support to new mothers help you excel in this role. These skills are essential to ensure the well-being of mothers and infants, deliver safe care, and support families during a critical transition period.

What are common challenges faced by seasonal postpartum nurses, and how can they be managed?

Seasonal Postpartum Nurses often encounter challenges such as quickly adapting to varying hospital policies, managing fluctuating patient loads during peak seasons, and integrating seamlessly into established teams. To manage these effectively, it's important to stay organized, communicate proactively with permanent staff, and seek out orientation resources provided by the facility. Building strong rapport with patients and colleagues can also help ease transitions and ensure high-quality care in a fast-paced environment.

Seasonal Postpartum and Pediatric Nurse roles both require RN licensure and focus on patient care, but Seasonal Postpartum specializes in postpartum recovery and maternal support during specific seasons, often in home or outpatient settings. Pediatric Nurses primarily care for children in hospital or clinical environments. While their credentials overlap, their work environments and patient focus differ significantly.

Where You'll Work

The General Medical department at St. Anthony Summit Hospital is a 16-to 26-bed blended unit meeting the daily challenges of caring for patients with a wide array of medical conditions. Our department specializes in ICU, intermediate care, medical surgical and pediatrics. The average length of stay is 1.2 days, so patients turnover quickly on this unit. Most patients are tourists and are dealing with the stress of injury while on vacation. We all have a variety of duties and wear multiple hats because we are a small hospital. We treat a wide variety of patients and are the only inpatient department in the hospital, so all patients come to this floor. We sometimes receive overflow for LDRP and we take care of postpartum moms and babies. Our team has an amazing culture of teamwork and receives, high patient satisfaction scores. Census changes rapidly on the floor if ICU patients come in, so we are flexible. We work with limited resources, no transporters and no IV team.

St. Anthony Summit Hospital is a Level III trauma center serviced by Flight For Life Colorado. We are nationally recognized as a multiple-time recipient of the Press Ganey Guardian of Excellence Award for Patient Experience, and we were named a Top 100 Hospital in the U.S. by IBM Watson Health in 2018. We also are a Pathway to Excellence-designated hospital, recognized by the American Nurses Credentialing Center as being one of the best hospitals for nurses to work. We provide a full range of medical specialties and health care services to Summit County and the surrounding region, including surgical, emergency/trauma, critical care, birth center, orthopedics, breast care, digital mammography, breast MRI, radiology and imaging, infusion therapy, nuclear medicine, cardiology, oncology, Summit Sleep Disorders Center, Ear Nose and Throat (ENT), gastroenterology and Total Joint Replacement. We proudly provide convenient care where you live, work and play - that's why visitors and residents alike can count on us for emergent and urgent medical services. In addition to 24/7, Level III emergency care at St. Anthony-Summit Hospital in Frisco, we have three emergency mountain clinics at the base of the Breckenridge, Copper Mountain and Keystone resorts, as well as urgent care and primary care available from CMG High Country Healthcare clinics in Frisco, Breckenridge and Silverthorne.
