Job description

Our client is working on a fabric/material development role with a top apparel company based in NYC. It is working on kids apparel but don't need to come from that category for this role. Full time hours - 4 days onsite and 1 remote in their midtown office. Great opportunity to get your foot into the door of a top company with room to grow. Manage all aspects of fabric quality, pattern and color development for children's dresswear, shirts, ties, linings, sportswear and private label fabric forward developments including communicating technical and aesthetic requirements, performance specifications, revisions and approvals. Direct supervision, support fabric merchants, liaison with production and compliance department.
  • Role is temp to perm - pay rate is approximately 45-50 an hour based on experience.

Responsibilities:
  • This role is responsible for leading fabric quality, pattern, color, and development initiatives across Kids Dresswear, School Uniform and Sportswear categories, ensuring materials meet aesthetic, performance, compliance, cost, and timeline objectives from concept through bulk production.
  • By providing technical expertise, driving development strategy, and coordinating cross-functional execution with design, sourcing, mills, and production teams, the position directly impacts product quality, speed to market, vendor performance, and overall business success.
  • Managing seasonal fabric quality, pattern, and color developments across assigned product categories in alignment with design intent, cost targets, quality standards, and production timelines.
  • Communicating fabric technical requirements, performance specifications, development comments, revisions, and approvals to internal and external partners.
  • Conducting technical evaluation and analysis of fabric construction, color/pattern execution, and performance.
  • Performing visual and electronic color evaluations.
  • Supporting fabric compliance, testing, and regulatory requirements throughout development and production.
  • Collaborating with sourcing, production, and mills to resolve development and bulk production quality issues.
  • Providing technical guidance to cross-functional teams and vendor partners on fabric construction, performance, and manufacturing capabilities.
  • Maintaining fabric development records, standards, and reference libraries.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve development processes, vendor performance, and material innovation.

Required Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of technical fabric development experience, across both knit and woven categories.
  • Textile Development, Science or related field preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of fabric/yarn/fiber manufacturing, coloration, finishing, performance testing, and quality evaluation methods.
  • Strong understanding of fabric structures and their reverse engineering, pattern/color development, and material performance requirements.
  • Proficiency in fabric analysis, Textile CAD tools, Microsoft Office and Adobe Products.
  • Satisfactory color discrimination ability and proficiency in color evaluations utilizing industry standard methods (visual and electronic).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to influence cross-functional teams and external partners.
  • Exceptional attention to detail; self-motivated, collaborative, flexible, reliable, and committed to continuous improvement.
