Job description

The Senior Controls Engineer works closely with Controls team members to identify and deploy improvements for controls software development and commissioning. This position bridges controls software engineering efforts with commissioning activities, particularly in the development and integration of new products.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead the handover process to the Controls Commissioning team for controls software engineering tasks.
  • Provide support in PLC software engineering and emulation efforts during commissioning.
  • Conduct technical reviews of controls software deliverables and onsite systems prior to customer handover.
  • Finalize module lists for handover to the Controls Commissioning team.
  • Attend project kick-off and core team meetings for initiatives involving new products.
  • Monitor and support new product development in collaboration with R&D.
  • Coordinate or lead development of small-scale new products (e.g., cameras, scanners, scales).
  • Support integration of new products into TGW’s software platform.
  • Develop third-party system interfaces and commissioning checklists.
  • Maintain product libraries and create documentation for MFS-PLC interfaces and emulation test plans.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements Education

Bachelor’s degree in Controls-related field (Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science) or equivalent work experience.

Experience

Five (5) or more years of hands-on Controls Engineering experience, preferably in material‑handling, industrial, or warehouse environment.

Travel

50% travel, domestically and internationally.

Skills & Abilities
  • Advanced knowledge of PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) and HMI (Human-Machine Interface) systems.
  • Strong proficiency in Siemens TIA Portal, Step 7 (STL, SCL, FBD, etc).
  • Deep understanding of electrical and mechanical principles, with the ability to read e-drawings and AutoCAD drawings.
  • Demonstrated experience working on full design-to-production project lifecycles.
  • Basic understanding of Industrial Communication Protocol (ProfiNet, Ethernet IP, etc).
  • Working knowledge of SCRUM and other agile frameworks.
  • Prior experience in controls commissioning engineering.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and walk around industrial and/or warehouse environment for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
  • Ability to operate computers, tablets, phones, and other electronic devices.
  • Visual and auditory abilities to work safely with and around moving and/or motorized equipment, machinery, parts, and electricity that require safety protocols.
  • Ability to move and use muscles for extended periods of time without fatigue.
  • Ability to climb ladders, bend, or crawl into awkward spaces.
  • Ability to communicate regularly with others verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to tolerate exposure to job site temperature fluctuations due to seasonal weather in geographic region.
