How much do senior emulation engineer jobs pay per year?

As of Jun 20, 2026, the average yearly pay for senior emulation engineer in the United States is $126,557.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $104,500.00 and $143,500.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What engineers make $300,000 a year?

Senior Emulation Engineers and other highly specialized engineering roles in fields like software, hardware, or systems engineering can earn $300,000 or more annually, especially with extensive experience, advanced skills, and relevant certifications. These positions often involve complex problem-solving, leadership responsibilities, and working in competitive or high-demand industries.

What is the salary of AMD emulation engineer?

The salary of an AMD emulation engineer typically ranges from $90,000 to $150,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and specific responsibilities. Senior roles with specialized skills in hardware modeling and simulation tools may offer higher compensation. Compensation packages often include benefits such as bonuses and stock options.

What are the main challenges Senior Emulation Engineers face when integrating emulation platforms into existing verification workflows?

Senior Emulation Engineers often encounter challenges related to compatibility between emulation platforms and pre-existing verification environments. Adapting testbenches, optimizing simulation performance, and ensuring accurate debug capabilities can require close collaboration with design, verification, and software teams. Additionally, keeping up with rapidly evolving hardware and software tools calls for continuous learning and adaptation. Successfully managing these challenges is key to delivering reliable, high-performance verification results.

What is the difference between Senior Emulation Engineer vs Hardware Verification Engineer?

AspectSenior Emulation EngineerHardware Verification Engineer
Required CredentialsBachelor's or Master's in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related fields; experience with emulation toolsBachelor's or Master's in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related fields; knowledge of verification methodologies
Work EnvironmentDesign and develop hardware emulation systems, work with FPGA and ASIC platformsDesign and execute verification plans, use simulation and formal verification tools
Industry UsageSemiconductor, electronics, and hardware development companiesSemiconductor, electronics, and integrated circuit industries

The main difference between a Senior Emulation Engineer and a Hardware Verification Engineer lies in their focus areas. The Senior Emulation Engineer specializes in hardware emulation systems, working closely with FPGA and ASIC platforms to validate hardware designs. In contrast, the Hardware Verification Engineer concentrates on verifying hardware functionality through simulation and formal methods. Both roles require similar educational backgrounds and are vital in semiconductor and electronics industries, but their core responsibilities and tools differ.

What engineer makes $500,000 a year?

Senior Emulation Engineers or highly experienced software engineers in specialized fields such as semiconductor design, high-frequency trading, or executive-level roles can earn $500,000 or more annually. These positions typically require advanced skills, certifications, and extensive industry experience, often including leadership responsibilities and working in high-demand environments.

What are Senior Emulation Engineers?

Senior Emulation Engineers are experienced professionals who design, develop, and manage hardware emulation systems to verify and validate complex integrated circuits (ICs) and system-on-chip (SoC) designs. They work with hardware description languages, emulation platforms, and debug tools to ensure designs function correctly before manufacturing. Their role often involves collaborating with design, verification, and software teams to accelerate the development cycle and identify design issues early. Senior Emulation Engineers typically have several years of experience and deep technical expertise in hardware verification and emulation technologies.

How much does an emulation engineer make at Apple?

An emulation engineer at Apple typically earns between $120,000 and $180,000 annually, depending on experience and location. Compensation may also include bonuses, stock options, and benefits, with senior roles often earning higher salaries.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Senior Emulation Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Senior Emulation Engineer, you need a deep understanding of hardware design (RTL, Verilog/VHDL), digital logic, and experience with FPGA or ASIC emulation platforms, typically supported by a degree in electrical or computer engineering. Expertise in emulation tools such as Synopsys ZeBu, Cadence Palladium, or Mentor Veloce, and familiarity with simulation and debugging systems, is essential. Strong problem-solving, communication, and leadership abilities help you collaborate effectively and mentor junior engineers. These skills and qualities are crucial for ensuring efficient verification cycles, catching design issues early, and delivering robust silicon products.

Ventana Micro Systems

Austin, TX

$103K - $142K/yr

Full-time

Posted 9 days ago

Job description

Ventana is building the highest-performance RISC-V CPUs on the planet—designed for data center, AI, and edge workloads, with real silicon, not slideware.
Our second-generation Veyron core (V2) is on track to ship early next year, featuring an aggressive wide-issue pipeline and built in 4nm. Development on Veyron V3 is ramping now, with even greater performance and deep AI platform integration. This is your opportunity to work alongside engineers who built iconic processors like the AMD K6 and the first 64-bit ARM server processor (X-Gene at AppliedMicro)—bringing decades of CPU innovation to a clean-slate, open-standards future. You can check us out here: Ventana Micro - YouTube
Ventana is looking to fill multiple technical Senior Engineer positions to continue the development of its innovative RISC-V processors and subsystems. We seek experienced professionals who can successfully work cross-functionally between all pre-silicon disciplines (arch/uarch, design, DV, software, performance, emulation/prototyping), with the focus on the development, debugging, and maintenance of complex system level hybrid execution environments to enable pre-silicon bring up of system software and performance benchmarking workloads.
Requirements:
  • 8+ years industry experience
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s or PhD degree in related engineering field
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently and across geographies
  • Strong domain knowledge of computer architecture
Qualifications Desired:
  • Hands on experience with commercial emulation (Cadence Palladium, Mentor Veloce) and/or prototyping (Cadence Protium, HAPS) solutions: transactor development, virtual prototyping, implementation/enablement of flows for advanced verification techniques (assertions, coverage, UPF)
  • Good understanding of modern SystemVerilog for design and verification
  • Strong software development experience in compiled (C/C++) and interpreted (Python, Tcl) languages
  • Strong hardware/software co-debug skills
  • Exposure to isolating and reproducing silicon bugs in emulation
  • Hands on knowledge of firmware, OS (Linux, RTOS) and hypervisor (Xen, KVM) open source software stacks for embedded and server applications
  • Industry experience with CPU architectures (RISC-V, x86, armv8), coherent communication protocols and standard IO interfaces
  • Crisp and clear communication skills
