PAY AND FAIR LABOR STANDARDS ACT (FLSA) STATUS:
Pay Range: 855
Hourly Rate: $15.00 - $16.25
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
The normal starting pay for this position is the minimum of the pay range listed above. A higher rate of pay may be considered, dependent on the qualifications and experience of the selected applicant.
HIRING INCENTIVE (Effective April 15, 2026, to September 10, 2026)
  • $50 - Applicant must complete all mandatory training, including orientation, and work all scheduled shifts during first month of active status.

Note: All approved incentives are contingent upon employee being in good standing without performance issues.

POSITION DESIGNATION
This job classification has been designated as a safety sensitive job classification in accordance with the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana and Patient Protection Act, 63 O.S., § 427.1 et seq., (OSCN 2019), effective August 29, 2019. This means employees in this job classification can be subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination if they test positive for marijuana components or metabolites, even if they possess a medical marijuana license.
JOB SUMMARY
This position is located in the Recreation, Health, and Wellness Division of the Parks and Recreation Department within the City of Oklahoma City. This position is responsible for functioning as a lead worker at a municipal swimming facility. Typical duties include: performing duties and responsibilities consistent with those of a lifeguard; preparing work schedules and assigning lifeguards to duty stations, and giving instruction in pool operating procedures, rules, safety practices, maintenance, and related matters; and overseeing lifeguards in the enforcement of safety rules and regulations. The necessary skills, knowledge, and ability and/or licenses and certifications to perform departmental specific tasks must be acquired prior to assuming the duties of the position. Applicants for this position must have completed Lifeguard Certification as issued by the Oklahoma City Parks and Recreation Department, Basic First Aid, and CPR for the Professional Rescuer with AED Module prior to hire. Ability to travel is required.

Note: Selected applicants must pass an initial swim test within seven (7) business days of accepting a conditional offer of employment.
Note: The City provides low-cost lifeguarding and Certified Swimming Instructor classes for those who are interested in serving as a lifeguard for the City's Parks and Recreation Department. Training includes basic water rescue skills and emergency first aid. Multiple training class times and dates available. Note: This position will occasionally accept cash and make change; operate a concession stand or gift shop; and collect fees, admission tickets, and passes from patrons at various events or City facilities.
Pay Method: City employees are required to receive pay electronically, either via direct deposit or pay card.
