Position Summary

The GVY Brookies Swim Team is seeking a motivated, reliable, and team-focused Assistant Coach to support the continued growth of a competitive, athlete-centered swim program.

This is not a "deck supervisor" role. We are building a culture of accountability, development, and team-first standards. The Assisting Coach will play an active role in athlete development, practice execution, and maintaining a positive, disciplined, and inclusive team environment.

Core Responsibilities
  • Assist in planning and executing daily swim practices across assigned training groups
  • Provide technical stroke instruction, feedback, and corrections in real time
  • Support athlete development in alignment with team training philosophy and seasonal goals
  • Maintain active engagement on deck (no passive coaching)
  • Help foster a positive, respectful, and team-first culture among athletes
  • Assist with swim meets (local and travel as needed), including warmups, racing support, and athlete supervision
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with athletes, families, and coaching staff
  • Enforce team expectations, policies, and standards consistently
  • Support team events, recruitment efforts (e.g., splash camps), and program growth initiatives
Coaching Expectations (Non-Negotiables)
  • On-deck presence must be active, attentive, and instructional at all times
  • Athletes are treated with respect, consistency, and accountability
  • Coach must align with a team-first philosophy (not athlete favoritism or passive oversight)
  • Strong emphasis on warm-up attendance, effort, and practice standards
  • Clear, timely communication with Head Coach and staff
  • Reliability and punctuality are essential
Compensation
  • Hourly: Typically ~$20/hour (based on experience and certifications)
  • Meet-related coaching compensation may apply
  • Professional development opportunities available
Why GVY Brookies?
  • Competitive team culture within a community-driven organization
  • Strong emphasis on athlete development and long-term growth
  • Opportunity to be part of a program that is building something meaningful-not just running practices
  • Leadership that values initiative, accountability, and high standards

Preferred:

  • Experience working in a team or club swim environment
Schedule & Commitment
  • Weekday afternoon/evening practices (specific schedule based on group assignment)
  • Occasional weekend swim meets (required)
  • Seasonal planning cycles (Short Course / Long Course)
