Job description

Ravenscroft School seeks a Head Junior Varsity (JV) Girls Volleyball Coach to lead and oversee the JV level of the volleyball program. This role supports the overall program philosophy set by the Head Varsity Coach/Program Head that is centered on student-athlete development, competitive excellence, leadership, and character formation. The ideal candidate brings a strong knowledge of volleyball, experience coaching youth, middle, or high school athletes, and a commitment to the academic and athletic mission of Ravenscroft School. This is a seasonal, part-time coaching position supporting the Ravenscroft's JV volleyball program.  

REPORTS TO: Varsity Head Volleyball Coach/Program Head 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: May supervise assistant coaches and student managers as assigned.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Team Leadership 

  • Serve as Head Coach of the JV Girls Volleyball program
  • Implement the unified program philosophy, standards of play, and team culture as set by the Varsity Head Coach/Program Head
  • Lead and evaluate assistant coaches to ensure alignment in player development and expectations
  • Support the Varsity Head Coach/Program Head in planning, including player development pathways and off-season programming

Player and Coach Development

  • Design and implement structured practice plans and individual training programs
  • Teach and demonstrate sport-specific fundamentals, techniques, and match strategy 
  • Promote sportsmanship, leadership, accountability, and personal growth among student-athletes
  • Utilize performance analysis tools to support individual player and team development 

Operations and Administration 

  • Supervise student-athletes before, during and after practice and matches
  • Maintain appropriate behavior and discipline of student-athletes in accordance with school and team expectations 
  • Manage the cleaning, storage, maintenance, and inventory of athletic equipment
  • Maintain required records, rosters, injury reports, and department documentation
  • Oversee match-day operations, including setup, transportation logistics, and team travel
  • Report match results and disciplinary matters as required
  • Attend required meetings, professional development opportunities, and athletic department functions
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics

Communication and Community Engagement

  • Serve as the primary communicator for the JV Girls Volleyball program with students, families and school leadership
  • Foster an inclusive team culture aligned with Ravenscroft's commitment to diversity, equality, inclusion and belonging (DEIB)
  • Report concerns, problems, or situations promptly to the Director of Athletics

Compliance and Professional Expectations 

  • Enforce all School policies at home and away matches and ensure compliance with conference and state athletic guidelines
  • Follow all school transportation policies and applicable driving and safety regulations when authorized to transport students
  • Model professionalism, ethical conduct, and respect at all times

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Required

    • Demonstrated knowledge of volleyball and fundamental coaching principles.
    • Experience leading or contributing to a competitive volleyball program.
    • Experience working with adolescent student-athletes in an educational or athletic setting.
    • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to meet the physical demands of the role.
    • Must successfully complete all school, conference, and state-required coaching certifications and training.
    • Commitment to the mission of Ravenscroft School.

    Preferred

    • Previous experience coaching or playing volleyball at the high school, collegiate, or club level.
    • CDL with school bus endorsement, or willingness to obtain if requested.
    • Experience working in a K–12 or independent school environment.

    WORKING CONDITIONS: School-based environment with regular presence on Ravenscroft’s athletic fields and facilities. Travel to away contests is required. This is a seasonal position covering the fall sports season (approximately August–November). Evening and weekend availability is required.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

    • Active physical participation, including demonstrating drills and remaining on feet for extended periods.
    • Ability to stand for extended periods and move throughout campus and athletic facilities.
    • Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations.
