Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Milford, Michigan three times per week, at minimum.

The Role:

Here at General Motors, we are looking for a hard-working person who enjoys taking on challenges and following through with robust solutions to join our Controls and Software team! Scrum Leaders are the Lean-Agile leader and team coach, responsible for facilitating agile execution within the Scrum team and supporting the delivery of value across Engine Controls. This role requires a balance of technical acumen, team facilitation, and relentless improvement, enabling your team to meet delivery goals with high quality and efficiency.

Scrum Leaders act as process champions guiding their team to adopt and sustain agile practices, eliminate impediments, champion quality initiatives, and foster a culture of trust, ownership, and continuous improvement. You will collaborate closely with the Scrum Manager/Product Owner, ART leadership, and cross-functional partners to help the team deliver innovative solutions and maintain technical integrity.

What You'll Do:

  • Serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for scrum team's product content.

  • Collaborate with the Scrum Manager to create a team culture that encourages a high degree of constructive collaboration, healthy relationships, and a shared accountability for delivering products with quality and per agreed upon timing commitments.

  • Facilitate Agile ceremonies: iteration planning, daily stand-ups, iteration reviews, and retrospectives.

  • Partner with Scrum Manager to align team objectives to ART-level goals for each Program Increment (PI) including unplanned work when necessary.

  • Drive consistent use of Agile practices including WIP limits, Plan-Do-Check-Adjust (PDCA), Innovation & Planning (IP), and feedback loops.

  • Coordinate with the ART Leadership to prepare for PI Planning, System Demos, and Inspect & Adapt (I&A) workshops.

  • Serve as owner of the team's Kanban board, helping visualize and manage team workflow.

  • Act as a Team Leader & Coach.

  • Support and guide the team in writing well-formed stories with clear acceptance criteria and normalized estimates.

  • Promote disciplined engineering practices such as BDD, TDD, and continuous integration/testing.

  • Mentor team members through regular check-ins, career coaching, and growth opportunities.

  • Lead team retrospectives, driving closure of improvement actions and fostering a culture of self-reflection and accountability.

  • Identify and eliminate impediments that block team progress; escalate where necessary.

  • Coordinate with cross-scrum teams and departments to resolve dependencies and align objectives.

  • Continuously monitor and improve team KPIs, including velocity, quality, and predictability.

  • Support adherence to the Definition of Done (DoD) and team alignment with Feature Acceptance Criteria.

  • Foster a culture of built-in quality and continuous improvement.

  • Ensure testing strategies (unit, integration, system-level) are in place and executed.

  • Collaborate with technical leaders to maintain the integrity of controls and diagnostics features.

  • Lead efforts to improve story flow, reduce defects, and build a resilient, adaptive team.

  • Participate in Scrum of Scrums to share best practices and systemic impediments.

  • Actively collaborate with stakeholders across ART Business Owner, Program Managers, SSLE, FSA, Calibration, and more.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):

  • Bachelor of Science degree in one of the following disciplines: Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or Physics.

  • Minimum5years of experience in embedded software development. Including:

    • Proven understanding of Agile principles and ability to coach others in their application.

    • Experience leading or facilitating engineering teams through complex software delivery efforts.

    • Strong communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.

    • Ability to navigate ambiguity, resolve conflict, and drive alignment across multiple stakeholders.

  • High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in project management skills

  • Experienced at planning, preparing for and leading meetings

  • Effective interpersonal skills that focus and influence others, including those which may have priority differences with yours.

  • Understanding of Embedded Controls Development & Delivery Process.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects and assignments with autonomy and accountability for results.

  • Consistent demonstration of innovative thinking that is customer-centric.

  • Experience with C/C++/Python and MATLAB/Simulink modeling.

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Master's degree in a field of Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics.

  • 8+ years of experience in Engine or Transmission Controls and Software development.

  • Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) training or certifications.

  • Experience in the GM component specification and release process.

  • Experience with customer interface technologies.

  • Familiarity with GM controls architecture, plant modeling, and SDV.

  • Experience with diagnostics, engine and transmission development, OBD-II, or ASIL standards.

  • DFSS Black Belt certification.

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a Global environment.

  • Experience in plant modeling and analysis tools, MIL, SIL, HIL Testing.

This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the selected candidate is expected to report to a specific location at least 3 times a week {or other frequency dictated by their manager}. This job may be eligible for relocation benefits.
