Job description

Position: Family Medicine Program Director

Department: South Central Regional Medical Center


Job Summary

South Central Regional Medical Center (SCRMC) in Laurel, Mississippi, is seeking a full-time, board-certified Family Medicine physician to serve as Program Director for its future Family Medicine Residency Program, set to launch in 2027.

This is a unique leadership opportunity to shape the future of family medicine education in a thriving, supportive healthcare environment while living in one of Mississippi’s most charming towns.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Overall leadership, administration, and oversight of the Family Medicine Residency Program in accordance with ACGME Family Medicine Program Director requirements.
  • Developing and implementing an innovative, high-quality curriculum that meets both ACGME standards and the evolving needs of patients and learners.
  • Providing direct supervision, mentorship, and evaluation of residents in a variety of clinical settings, including ambulatory and inpatient care.
  • Ensuring the program meets or exceeds requirements related to resident education, scholarly activity, quality improvement, and board preparation.
  • Recruiting and retaining high-caliber faculty and residents.
  • Participating in clinical practice (approximately 20–30%) to maintain engagement in patient care and serve as a role model to residents.
  • Promoting a learning environment that fosters resident well-being, equity, and professionalism.
  • Collaborating with SCRMC’s DIO, administrative leadership and community partners to ensure program growth and sustainability.
  • Overseeing resident and faculty scholarly activity, including quality improvement, patient safety initiatives, and community health projects.

Requirements

  • Board Certified in Family Medicine.
  • Minimum of three years of educational and/or administrative experience within an accredited Family Medicine Residency Program.
  • A Mississippi medical license.
  • Demonstrate commitment to excellence in teaching, patient care, and leadership.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with academic and clinical teams.
  • Experience in developing or leading a residency program is strongly preferred.
