Job description

Job Description
The position is responsible for developing, marketing, and underwriting US Casualty Treaty business. While skillful underwriting is paramount, the candidate should also be a team player, willing to contribute to the broader goals of the team. As such, the candidate must possess effective communication and project management skills, working with both external and internal stakeholders, including clients, brokers, SCOR teams, claims, actuarial, legal, strategy, and senior management. The expectation is that the senior underwriter support training and development of less tenured underwriters.
We are looking for a candidate who is comfortable with open-ended challenges and can succinctly and confidently recommend solutions, understanding that the process is as important as the outcome. The candidate will be expected to assume client management responsibilities, which require strong communication skills and engagement across supporting functions and lines of business.
Responsibilities
Underwriting
  • Evaluate new and renewal casualty and professional liability treaty reinsurance programs
  • Structure and negotiate appropriate terms and conditions that support SCOR appetite
  • Evaluate and negotiate contract wording
  • Evaluate and negotiate pricing in conjunction with actuarial support
  • Perform underwriting audits for current and potential clients
  • Discuss underwriting and management issues with executives at primary insurance client companies
  • Collaborate with Client Managers to support overall client relationship
  • Actively monitor market trends and engage in strategic discussions with internal and external parties.
  • Actively contribute to internal projects.
  • Support training and development of the broader team

Marketing
  • Attend marketing visits to broker offices and establish marketing presence
  • Identify clients that align with SCOR's appetite and are additive to the overall portfolio
  • Identify brokers that handle accounts that fit the SCOR underwriting targets
  • Attend industry conventions to promote SCOR
  • Develop and maintain business relationships

Account Management
  • Work collaboratively with all internal parties to manage individual deals and overall client relationships
  • Diligently maintain all documentation for assigned accounts as per SCOR guidelines
  • Understand and adhere to SCOR underwriting and pricing guidelines

Qualifications
  • College degree or equivalent experience required.
  • Reinsurance underwriting experience is highly preferred.
  • Candidates should have at least 7 years of prior reinsurance underwriting or reinsurance broking experience, or a minimum of 10 years in primary underwriting.
  • Strong knowledge of casualty (re)insurance market
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time and dedicate a considerable amount of time to developing broker and client relationships
  • Positive attitude and a willingness to contribute and work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong Microsoft office skills, particularly Excel
  • Working knowledge of Salesforce, Tableau, Power BI, Co-Pilot or similar tools is a plus
  • Willingness to collaborate and mentor rising talent

Relocation assistance within the U.S. is available for this position.

SCOR employees work 3 days per week in an office with the flexibility to work 2 days per week remotely.
Pay Range for roles performed in IL: $200,500-$271,500 NY: $218,000-$294,500 base salary per year. Actual salaries may vary based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, role and performance. The range listed is just one component of SCOR's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, short- and long-term incentives. In addition, we provide a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, a retirement saving plan, paid holidays and paid time off.
