The Utah Schools for the Deaf and the Blind (USDB) invites you to consider an employment opportunity with our agency. We are looking for two meticulous and responsible candidates to fill a Proofreader Aide position working at our Ogden campus.
*Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 12:30 pm to 4:30 pm*
Key Responsibilities
Roles and Responsibilities:
As a Proofreader Aide you will:
  • Provides quality assurance by assisting the certified Instructional Materials Technician(s) in the production of Braille accessible instructional materials for Utah students.
  • Works alongside Instructional Materials Technicians to verify proof copy of Braille transcription against original script to detect grammatical, typographical, or compositional errors and marks.
  • Helps ensure that Braille documents are formatted correctly.
  • Consults reference books or secures aid of Instructional Materials Technicians to check references to rules of grammar and composition.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
The model candidate for this position is someone who:
  • Has experience in reviewing documents for accuracy and completeness.
  • Is able to understand and apply grammatical, typographical, and compositional rules to Braille material.
  • Can read and understand instructional materials in a variety of curriculum areas and on instructional levels from
    kindergarten through high school.
  • Can read and interpret tactile graphics in a variety of curriculum areas, including language arts, mathematics,
    science, and social studies.
  • Ability to review and/or edit documents for accuracy and completeness.
  • Understands and uses common proofreading and standard printers' marks.
  • Can use automated software applications.
  • Communicate information and ideas clearly and concisely in writing.
  • Can read and understand information present in writing.
