The Role ResponsibilitiesSCHS currently has 2 openings in the science department. The content areas these two positions are responsible for were Physical Science (Grade 9), Biology (Grade 10), Chemistry and AP Chemistry. All instructors are responsible for creating, developing, implementing and reflecting on units, lessons, assessments and interventions around their content areas.
SCHS is a PLC driven school that requires the analysis of student performance data that leads to action plans around student need. PLC's meet weekly to develop common summative and formative assessments, follow prescribed scope and sequence, collectively problem solve and adjust instruction around learning. SCHS delivers an A/B, alternating daily schedule, with 4 teaching blocks per day for approximately 90 minutes per block. SCHS also implements a "Hawk Time" intervention period in which students receive reteaching and extension of Tier I concepts and skills.
Instructors are responsible for being an active member of the PLC team and are encouraged to participate in any one of the building-level improvement teams such as the Staff Engagement Team (SET), Positive Behaviors Intervention & Supports (PBIS) Team, Sources of Strength (SOS), and Academic and Career Readiness (ACP) Team.
Role RequirementsBachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Science Education, or a related field required. Valid state teaching license/certification for secondary science education required or eligibility to obtain certification. Previous teaching or student teaching experience preferred but not required. You hold a strong knowledge of scientific principles, laboratory procedures, and safety practices. You have the ability to develop engaging lesson plans, manage classroom behavior, and effectively communicate complex scientific concepts to diverse learners. Proficiency with educational technology and a commitment to fostering critical thinking, problem-solving, and scientific inquiry among students.
