Job description

We are seeking an experienced Power Systems Research Engineer to join the Government Services team at Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) to support our efforts of integrating electric power systems for our Navy customers. In this role, you will expand SEL's capabilities and help start a new shipboard product line.

Working with a wide range of colleagues from around the company, your engineering will help make electric power safer, more reliable, and more economical for the United States Navy. Our small but growing team has the spirit of a startup with the support system of a large company. The work we do is fulfilling because it truly matters: We help keep the lights on for those defending freedom, preserving economic prosperity, and keeping the seas open and free. Join us!

As a Lead Research Engineer, a typical day might include the following:

  • Collaborating with peers and customers on system specifications for new products
  • Helping set long-term product and process strategies
  • Evaluating new emerging technologies
  • Integrating electrical protection and communication equipment into a coherent system
  • Simulating and analyzing power system designs
  • Supporting the testing and manufacturing of electronic devices
  • Leading a team of engineers to accomplish program goals

This might be the job for you if:

  • You have a B.S. in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • You have expertise in the following: power system design, power system integration, and power system protection.
  • You are familiar with requirements engineering and Model-Based System Engineering
  • You have experience in simulation and timing analysis
  • You have experience in drafting
  • You enjoy creating elegant solutions for complex problems
  • You have experience with the US Navy or other marine applications

Pay Range Data:

We anticipate filling this position as a Lead Research Engineer: $115,300 - $170,400.

We are open to reviewing additional candidates with more or less experience and the pay range may differ if filled at a different level. Our pay ranges are determined by job and responsibility. We base our starting pay offer and title on job-related factors such as candidate experience, training, knowledge, and skills.
