Job description

The Opportunity:

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Inc. ("SEL") seeks professional, innovative and detailed individuals for our Application Engineer - Automation position located at our field office in Hawthorn Woods, Illinois.

Application Engineer - Automation (Multiple Openings)

Responsibilities:

The Application Engineer - Automation is required to develop, maintain, and improve knowledge of power system automation and all SEL related products (involving software, integration and automation, industrial controls, PLCs, relevant industry protocols-such as IEC-61850, DNP, and Modbus-Ethernet systems, protocol analyzers, and industry SCADA practices). The incumbent will apply the principles of electrical and computer engineering to: (1) help customers apply SEL products through visits, demonstrations, training courses, and telephone contacts; (2) contribute to product specifications, applications, and testing software and literature; (3) broadcast new information on product applications and testing to SEL national field offices; (4) participate in SEL marketing and sales activities and industry technical meetings and conferences; (5) teach in training schools for customers and SEL personnel; (6) maintain customer database for customer application and quality information; and (7) follow and improve marketing, sales, and engineering quality procedures.

TRAVEL:

These full-time positions will be based out of SEL's field office in Hawthorn Woods, Illinois. Because SEL has numerous customers nationwide, some travel is required, as the incumbent will occasionally and on a short-term basis be deployed to various customer sites. Candidates must therefore be willing to travel to various unanticipated locations throughout the United States on an ongoing basis. However, the position requires regular on-site work at the Hawthorn Woods field office and does not permit remote work or work-from-home arrangements, notwithstanding any required business travel to customer sites.

Salary Range: $98,700.00 to $104,700 per year.
