Job description

Your opportunity

At Schwab, you’re empowered to make an impact on your career. Here, innovative thought meets creative problem solving, helping us “challenge the status quo” and transform the finance industry together. We believe in the importance of in-office collaboration and fully intend for the selected candidate for this role to work on site in the specified location(s).

Schwab Technology Services enables the future of how clients manage their money by providing innovative and reliable technology products and services as part of our ongoing commitment to democratize access to investing and financial planning.

Schwab Data is critical to the future of Schwab, as we seek to embrace and support new ways of using data (GenAI), embed additional insights and data-driven processes in our business, and respond to evolving needs and expectations in data governance.  The Schwab Data organization collectively focuses on data strategy, data analytics, data science, data governance, and data engineering, while simultaneously enhancing data impact and data safety for our business and our clients.  We will advance our impact in line with evolving data/analytics/AI technology and reinforce our ability to safely, responsibly, intentionally, and broadly utilize data, analytics, and AI.

Within Schwab Data, the Data Risk Enhancement team’s purpose is to strengthen the firm’s ability to proactively identify, prioritize, and mitigate data risk. The team focuses on making data risk visible and actionable by leveraging data lineage and related insights to illuminate how data flows across the firm, where risk concentrates, and where intervention will have the greatest impact. Acting as a first line of defense, the team partners closely with data, analytics, and AI professionals to ensure data risks are understood in context and addressed in a way that supports both safety and business outcomes.

In this role, you will support data risk initiatives by helping analyze data flows, document lineage, and surface risk insights that inform prioritization and remediation efforts. You will work collaboratively with business and technology partners to understand how data is used across processes, contribute to assessments of data risk exposure, and help translate findings into clear reporting and tracking. This role offers the opportunity to build hands on experience in data risk, data governance, and data lineage, while learning how these disciplines come together to strengthen Schwab’s data risk posture.

What you have

Required Qualifications

  • Foundational experience supporting data risk, data quality, data governance, or data management activities, with an interest in understanding how data risk impacts business outcomes.
  • Working knowledge of data lineage and data flows, including how data is sourced, transformed, and consumed across systems and processes.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret data, identify risk indicators, and support prioritization of remediation efforts.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across business and technology teams to help document issues, track actions, and support delivery of data risk initiatives.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain data concepts and findings to both technical and non-technical partners.
  • Experience supporting or contributing to data risk metrics, reporting, or dashboards, including monitoring trends and identifying potential issues.
  • Familiarity with data governance concepts, metadata, and data management practices; basic proficiency with SQL, data structures, or analytical tools is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail, curiosity, and a willingness to learn in a fast‑paced, highly matrixed environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a data-related field (e.g., data management, analytics, information systems, computer science, finance, or similar), or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in one or more of the following areas:
  • data analytics, data governance, data quality, data risk, data engineering, or reporting.
  • Experience supporting the delivery of reports, analyses, or insights related to data, risk, or operational performance.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and contribute effectively within cross‑functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Exposure to project delivery, agile ways of working, or change management, including tools such as Jira or similar work‑tracking platforms.
  • Familiarity with financial services, risk management, or regulated environments.
  • Experience working in a matrixed organization with multiple stakeholders and competing priorities.
  • Strong problem‑solving mindset, with a desire to grow technical and analytical skills over time.
  • Team‑oriented, adaptable, and comfortable working through evolving requirements and objectives.

"In addition to the salary range, this role is also eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities."
