The Secretary II assists department leadership by providing administrative and secretarial support to the department and/or site location.


A day in the life of a Secretary II, Behavioral Health Department at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  • Answers phone calls and direct the caller to the appropriate personnel, department, or voicemail to ensure all calls are addressed. Screens and refers incoming emails to ensure that accurate and timely departmental communication is facilitated.
  • Maintains schedule and makes appointments for Leader as requested.
  • Completes all administrative tasks needed to support department functions.
  • Assists Leader with the team members' schedule.
  • Assists Leader with monthly reports and contract preparation
  • Maintains timekeeping and attendance if applicable.
  • Takes committee or department meeting minutes as needed.
  • Develops and sets priorities of departmental needs.
  • Communicates and maintains rapport with Leaders and Team Members.
  • Assists department with various duties and/or projects related to the department's needs and responsibilities.
  • Orders office supplies and computer equipment as requested if applicable.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.
  • A minimum of four years of secretarial experience.
  • Extensive experience with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

  • Graduate of an accredited Business School.
  • Typing speed of over 70 wpm.
  • Strong multitasking and organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
