Job description

Job Title

This position involves assisting school teachers with routine non-teaching duties including student supervision. This work is of ordinary nature involving the responsibility for assisting school teachers by performing assigned routine tasks including the supervision and care of students. The work is performed under general supervision in accordance with outlined policies and procedures. Does related work as required.

Typical Work Activities

Assists School Teachers in supervising students during recreation, lunch periods and study halls; Guides students safely across streets and intersections;

Maintains order in hallways, gymnasiums, locker rooms, swimming pools and all other areas within a school building;

Oversees students passing between classes and in locker rooms and on premises before and after school;

Assists with building entry and student dismissal and students/children in lower grades with wearing apparel; May perform simple clerical duties under supervision; May administer elementary first aid treatment;

Works in collaboration with Utica Police Department, Utica City School District Security leadership and Principals.

Performs a variety of related duties as necessary for the proper supervision of the students.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics

Working knowledge of first aid methods; ability to work well with others, especially with children; clerical aptitude; dependability, neatness of appearance, ability to read and write; keenness of observation; sound social and general intelligence; mental alertness, integrity; neatness of appearance; tact, courtesy. Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

Special Requirement: Any position involving contact with children/students will require a background and fingerprinting check before employment commences.
