The North Plainfield School District, a culturally diverse school district in Somerset County serving 3,700 students Pre-K through grade 12, seeks a dynamic, enthusiastic and innovative professional for the position of a district Security Officer.
Qualifications Include:
  • High School Diploma or higher in any field
  • Law enforcement experience preferred
  • Knowledge of security measures, fire prevention, crisis management, and crowd control
  • Knowledge of current laws, procedures, and board policies regarding search and seizure activities, and procedures used in making arrests and prosecuting violators
  • Ability to maintain order and to work with groups and individuals on matters of security and crisis management
  • High interpersonal relationship skills in dealing with fellow professionals, students, and parents
Responsibilities Include:
  • Patrolling district buildings and grounds to protect against illegal entry, acts of violence, vandalism, illegal drug activity, arson, and theft
  • Conducting regular inspections of windows, doors, and other points of entry to ensure that they are secure
  • Patrolling school grounds to observe unauthorized persons or vehicles, parking violations, and overall security of the outside area including exterior lighting and emergency access routes
  • Checking identification of pupils, staff, and visitors entering the school
  • Detaining unauthorized persons; calling for police assistance in accordance with the district's security plan/crisis management plan; notifying police, fire department, or other appropriate authority of any situation requiring immediate attention
  • Providing for the safety and security of students and personnel while on school grounds
  • Enforcing district rules and regulations regarding safety and security

Salary: $40,000 (minimum) to $46,000 (maximum) commensurate with experience
