The Operations Associate is responsible for the operation of the Parkside Student Center. They will monitor the building activities, assist customers, and provide technical services for events and setup/tear down equipment to those using the facilities. The Operations Associate needs to be self-motivated.

Position Tasks:

Building Management and Event Services:

  • Read the reservations schedule and execute setup and technical needs.

  • Provide complete set-ups, teardowns, custodial and facility maintenance, and audio/visual services as necessary to provide successful meetings and events.

  • Secure and lock or unlock all Parkside Student Center facilities.

  • Confront, manage, and report problems to the staff member following the Student Center and/or Facilities Management emergency call list.

  • Accept responsibility for overall management when professional staff are not present and make appropriate decisions.

  • Have knowledge of guest use in the building through communication with guests and hourly rounds.

  • Maintain cleanliness of facility.

  • Understand and use master schedule to ensure events and employees are in place for customers.

Customer Service:

  • Be the contact person for each group using the facility before the start of their scheduled meeting or event.

  • Set up the directional and welcome signage for the next round of events and meetings.

  • Communicate effectively with customers and determine their needs and offer the best possible solution.

  • Complete a shift report to communicate event and facility status.

  • Supervise the building use to ensure successful events and meetings.

  • Provide for the order, security and safety of the building and its occupants in the absence of or in addition to permanent staff.

  • Enforce and promote the Student Center's reservation, promotion and building use polices and protocols.

  • Provide resources and customer service to a variety of customers including but not limited to students, faculty, staff and external guests.

$15 per hour

Required Qualifications:
  • Must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.75 and have 6 non-audit credits.

  • Must be available to work 10-20 hours per week including weeknights, weekends, vacation break periods and some holidays.

  • Weekly shift hours are determined on a semester basis.

  • Must be available to work at least two semesters based upon the complexity of the position and training required.

  • Additional opportunities may be offered for full-time employment during Winterim-term, Spring Break and summer months on a limited basis.

  • Basic computer knowledge and skills.

  • Must have excellent customer service skills.

  • Possess excellent leadership and problem-solving skills and be able to determine priorities.

  • Adhere to Student Employee Handbook and uniform dress policy.

  • Flexible hours and willingness to help with timely deadlines.

  • Operational knowledge of telephone, copier, and audio-visual and technical equipment preferred.

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.

  • Performance reviews are conducted with the supervisor at least once per semester. Self-management is a must and self evaluations are continuous. Develop confidence and support initiatives for a successful work experience.

  • Maintain a reputation of professionalism through appearance, demeanor and performance.

  • Attend required training and weekly staff meetings.

  • Demonstrate initiative and strong work ethic related to guest and staff expectations.
