Your Role at KIK

As the Tax Manager you will report to the Sr. Vice President of Taxation.  We are seeking a detail-oriented Tax Manager to oversee Canadian corporate tax compliance while supporting U.S. state, local, and indirect tax matters across multiple jurisdictions. This role is responsible for managing tax filings, assisting with quarterly and annual tax provisions, coordinating audits, and ensuring compliance with evolving tax regulations. 

This is a contract role to cover an extended leave. 

What You'll Do

Canadian Corporate Tax Compliance

  • Manage the preparation and review of Canadian Corporate Income Tax Returns and related supporting schedules. 

  • Manage the preparation and filing of the T106 Information Returns and NR4.

  • Liaise with external tax advisors and tax authorities on compliance matters, audits, and information requests.

  • Monitor legislative and regulatory tax changes and assess impacts on the organization. 

U.S. State & Local Tax Management

  • Assist with the preparation and filing of U.S. State Income and related Tax Returns.

  • Review U.S. Personal Property Tax Returns and related budgets for completeness and accuracy

  • Assist with U.S. indirect tax matters and audits as needed in coordination with internal stakeholders and external advisors. 

  • Review indirect tax account reconciliations and support resolution of reconciling items.  

Tax Provision & Financial Reporting

  • Assist with the quarterly and annual income tax provision processes for Canada and global jurisdictions, including the preparation of year-end tax provision journal entries.

  • Prepare and support the return to provision computations and journal entries for Canada and global jurisdictions. 

  • Prepare current and deferred tax calculations, tax account reconciliations, and supporting schedules for financial reporting purposes.

  • Support external auditors by providing tax analyses, documentation, and provision support.

Indirect Tax & Audit Management

  • Assist with Canadian indirect tax audits, including GST/HST and QST audits and related information requests.

  • Support property tax appeal and refund initiatives in collaboration with external consultants and advisors when required.

  • Coordinate audit responses, documentation gathering, and communications with tax authorities and external advisors.

  • Maintain organized audit documentation and oversee timely responses to tax authority inquiries.

  • Support U.S. indirect tax audits, including sales and use tax matters, as required.

  • Oversee customer exemption/certificate collection processes and ensure documentation completeness and compliance.

  • Manage year-end updates and maintenance of exemption certificate records and compliance databases.

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA preferred.

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive tax experience in public accounting and/or a corporate tax department. 

  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, local, and/or international tax regulations. 

  • Experience preparing and reviewing U.S. and Canadian corporate income tax returns. 

  • Experience with quarterly and annual income tax provisions (ASC 740). 

  • Knowledge of tax accounting principles and financial reporting. 

  • Experience managing tax audits and responding to tax authority inquiries. 

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and tax software (e.g., OneSource, Vertex, Corptax, Avalara, or similar). 

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
