Job description

SunWest Builders believes that each employee’s success contributes to the overall success of this organization. This description is intended to outline primary job duties, qualifications and scope, but not to limit the employee nor the organization to adjust the work identified to ensure the success of our endeavors.


Summary of Position:

 

The Project Engineer supports the Project Manager and the Superintendent in overall project coordination. This position will work both in the field and main office, as the project dictates. The Project Engineer has the authority to act on behalf of the Project Manager in his or her absence. Often times a Project Engineer will be assigned smaller projects to manage on their own. This position reports directly to Project Manager(s).


SunWest Builders believes that a successful Project Engineer must exhibit the following:


Responsibilities:

  • Perform material quantity take-offs and estimating.
  • Assist the Project Managers with subcontractor bid solicitation and analyzing bids.
  • Have a comprehensive understanding of subcontract agreements, the scope of work, and project finish schedules.
  • Manage contract drawing disbursement with all subcontractors. 
  • Assist with material procurement and inspection of deliveries.
  • Help administer and maintain document control (RFI, Submittal and Meeting Minutes)   
  • Assist with managing and updating project schedule.
  • Assist with approving vendor invoices.
  • Assist with Change Order Management.   
  • Assist Project Manager’s with submittal reviews, including structural shop drawings.
  • Promote job site safety and enforce safe work practices.  
  • Manage project closeout and punch list procedures.
  • Assist Superintendent in maintaining a complete set of current as-built construction documents.
  • Assist Superintendent with hard copies of approved submittals and samples in the field.
  • Assist Superintendent with quality control procedures as need.


Requirements:

  • Demonstrate the ability to read and understand construction drawings and specifications.
  • Display strong written and verbal communication skills and employ effective listening skills.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in all computer programs as defined necessary by management. (Procore, Microsoft Project, Sage, Sage paperless, Bluebeam, OnScreen Take Off, Excel, Word, and Outlook.)
  • Strong organizational and time management skills and have the ability to multi-task.

 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Engineering or 5 years equivalent experience.


Personality Profile:

  • Self-starting, highly motivated, and goal orientated individual.
  • Excellent attention to detail with an emphasis placed on quality.
  • Quick, sharp, confident, and ethical.
  • Enjoys working with people and is a strong team player.


Job Conditions:

This position generally requires, on average, a 9-hour workday. Each project will define and dictate the actual workweek, workdays, and working hours. It is the expectation of SunWest Builders that each employee will satisfy the unique workday requirements for each project as necessary.
