Team: Managed Desktop & Citrix (AVD) Group


Position Overview:

UT Southwestern is seeking a skilled and reliable Desktop Support Engineer to join the Managed Desktop & Citrix (AVD) team on a 6-month contract. This role is critical to supporting a large-scale desktop environment (~20,000 managed desktops) and ensuring smooth onboarding of new departments. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise in SCCM, application packaging, and endpoint management, with the ability to work independently and integrate quickly with the team.


Key Responsibilities:

Desktop Build Creation & Maintenance

  • Develop and maintain standardized desktop images using SCCM and Microsoft Endpoint Manager.
  • Integrate required applications, drivers, and configurations into build sequences.
  • Ensure compatibility with enterprise hardware standards (e.g., Dell Pro series, Windows 11 Enterprise).

Application Packaging

  • Package, test, and deploy software applications via SCCM.
  • Troubleshoot application delivery issues and optimize task sequences for performance.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation for all packaging and deployment procedures.

Patch & Update Management

  • Manage monthly deployment of security patches and software updates.
  • Monitor client health and compliance status across endpoints.

Support & Collaboration

  • Provide second-line support for complex desktop issues and escalations.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure, service desk, and project teams to support desktop-related initiatives.
  • Assist with onboarding new departments into the managed desktop environment.

Compliance & Security

  • Enforce endpoint security policies including BitLocker, Sophos, and RDP restrictions.
  • Ensure builds and packages meet licensing and security standards.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Strong experience with SCCM/MECM including task sequencing, application packaging, and OS deployment.
  • Proficiency in Windows OS environments (Windows 10/11), Active Directory, and Group Policy.
  • Familiarity with scripting languages such as PowerShell for automation.
