State Technical College of Missouri is accepting applications for full time, 12-month annual contract, exempt, and benefit eligible Physical Therapist Assistant Instructor position for the Health Sciences program. The successful candidate for our Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) Instructor role will oversee clinical education and provide instruction to physical therapist assistant students in both theory and practice of physical therapy preparing students for successful careers in rehabilitation and patient care. This position blends clinical expertise with educational leadership, ensuring students gain meaningful, real-world learning experiences through high-quality clinical placements.
In this role, you will serve as the critical bridge between the classroom and the clinic-building partnerships with healthcare providers, coordinating student clinical experiences, and supporting students as they transition from learning theory to applying their skills in real patient care environments.

Required Qualifications:
Holds an active, unencumbered PT license or PTA license in any United States jurisdiction and is in compliance with the practice act in the jurisdiction where the program is located. Has a minimum of three years of full-time (or equivalent) post-licensure clinical practice. Has a minimum of two years of clinical practice as an SCCE and/or CI or two years of experience in teaching, curriculum development, and administration in a physical therapist assistant education program. Has a minimum of three years of full-time (or equivalent) post licensure clinical experience in physical therapy practice and has contemporary expertise in assigned teaching areas and demonstrated effectiveness in teaching and evaluation of student learning. Teaching areas will include professionalism, documentation, basic patient care, pathophysiology, biophysical agents, and neurological rehabilitation.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate, schedule, and supervise all student clinical education experiences for the PTA student, including developing and delivering instruction for multiple courses, skill labs, and assessment activities that prepare students for successful participation in clinical education.
  • Through focused classroom and laboratory teaching, the Physical Therapist Assistant Instructor ensures students are clinically ready and demonstrate entry-level competence with the expectations of the physical therapist assistant profession. Serve as the primary liaison between the college and affiliated clinical sites, ensuring compliance with program and accreditation requirements.
  • Monitor student clinical performance through regular communication with PTA students, assigned clinical instructors, and on-site visits, documenting progress, site compliance, and addressing concerns.
  • Advise and prepare students for clinical education, ensuring readiness in safety, professional behaviors and technical skills. Responsibilities include monitoring students with all required clinical needs records (background check, vaccination status, current CPR card, etc.) to maintain compliance with clinical partners.
  • Maintain accurate records, including accumulation of data of the student's clinical experiences, competencies, and clinical evaluations in accordance with CAPTE standards. Knowledge of the APTA Web CPI 3.0 platform and Trajecsys.
  • Participate in program curriculum development, and assessment to integrate clinical education with didactic instruction.
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining Canvas course shells and effectively utilizing the Learning Management System (LMS) to deliver course content and support student learning.
  • Collaborate with the PTA program director on program evaluation, improvement plans, and preparation of the CAPTE annual accreditation reports and self-study reports.
  • Ensure that all clinical affiliates have current affiliation agreements and maintain sufficient contracted clinical sites to provide the variety to meet accreditation standards.
  • Assist and treat patients in the program's pro bono clinic to promote community engagement and service-learning consistent with the college and program mission.
  • Collaborate with the program director and adjunct faculty to ensure curriculum alignment between classroom, lab, and clinical experiences.
  • Support student advising, retention, and remediation efforts as well as marketing for the program.
  • Participate in program faculty meetings, program advisory committee meetings, and professional development activities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the PTA program director. Perform other tasks of a similar nature or level as assigned.
