Job description

Deputy Court Clerk III

The City of Roanoke is seeking a Deputy Court Clerk III to perform clerical work in the Office of the Clerk of Circuit Court. Job responsibilities include but are not limited to issuing marriage licenses, subpoenas, and notary public applications; administering oaths; processing civil suits; inputting all data relating to documents filed in case files into automated indexing system; recording land records, assumed names certificates and military discharge paperwork; and preparing a variety of simple and routine reports. The successful candidate will scans and index deeds, wills, and other documents; attend court sessions; swear witnesses in; tag exhibits; record and transcribe proceedings; type abstracts of convictions for the Division of Motor Vehicles; and purchase office supplies. They will also be responsible for maintaining records retention schedules, serve as back up to Bookkeeping, and perform supervisory duties when required. This position requires a high school diploma or general education degree (GED); four or more years experience, preferably in the legal field, two or more at the level of Deputy Court Clerk II; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
