Position Overview
Tilcon Connecticut has an immediate opening for a Scale Operator in a floating capacity throughout Connecticut. The Scale Operator is responsible for accurately processing stone and asphalt transactions, coordinating trucking activities between jobs and plants, preparing reports, and providing exceptional customer service to internal and external stakeholders.
This position requires a high level of accuracy, organization, flexibility, and professionalism. The successful candidate must be able to work independently and as part of a team while maintaining a strong commitment to safety, quality, and integrity. Regular interaction with customers, truck drivers, vendors, and various internal departments is required.
This is a floating position, and the selected candidate will be required to travel and work at various Tilcon Connecticut aggregate and asphalt locations throughout the state to provide coverage based on operational and staffing needs. Flexibility in reporting location is a key requirement of this role.
All Tilcon Connecticut employees are expected to actively participate in and support the Company's commitment to workplace safety. The Scale Operator reports directly to the Point-of-Sale Manager and is responsible for complying with all company policies, procedures, and safety requirements.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Weigh trucks and accurately process transactions for aggregates, asphalt, and other construction materials in compliance with state regulations and company policies.
  • Maintain accurate customer, job, product, trucking, and haul-rate information within the point-of-sale system.
  • Process customer orders received by telephone and schedule material deliveries.
  • Coordinate trucking activities between jobsites and production facilities.
  • Accurately process and reconcile daily cash transactions.
  • Prepare and maintain daily sales reports and monthly inventory reports.
  • Answer incoming telephone calls professionally and communicate messages as needed.
  • Provide excellent customer service to customers, truck drivers, vendors, and employees.
  • Communicate site traffic patterns and safety requirements to customers and truck drivers.
  • Maintain accurate files and records in accordance with company procedures.
  • Support operational and administrative functions as assigned.
  • Maintain a professional and cooperative working relationship with coworkers and management.
  • Comply with all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Education
  • High school diploma or GED required.

Experience
  • Prior customer service, retail, administrative, or construction industry experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Demonstrated mathematical aptitude and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team environment.
  • Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Connecticut Public Weigher's License.
  • Ability to travel to and work from multiple Tilcon Connecticut locations throughout the state as business needs require.

Schedule & Travel Requirements
  • This is a floating position that requires regular travel between Tilcon Connecticut locations statewide.
  • Must be available to report to different facilities based on staffing and operational requirements.
  • Must be available to work early morning and late-day schedules as business needs require.
  • Must be available to work occasional Saturdays during peak operational periods, particularly during the summer and fall months.
  • Vacation scheduling may be limited during peak construction season based on operational needs.
