Position Description

Are you ready to lead challenging Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) projects while collaborating with a talented, multidisciplinary team?
AE2S is seeking an Instrumentation & Controls (SCADA) Project Manager to help expand our I&C presence in the Denver and greater Colorado market. In this role, you will work closely with I&C professionals across the upper Midwest to lead the planning, design, integration, and delivery of I&C and SCADA improvements for municipal water and wastewater facilities.
This position is ideal for a hands-on I&C Project Manager who thrives in a dynamic, varied work environment. You'll spend time out in the community building connections with new and existing clients, in the office managing projects from concept through completion, and onsite in the field overseeing implementation, troubleshooting, and ensuring successful system startup. If you enjoy combining relationship-building with technical leadership and project execution, this is the role for you.
Responsibilities
Project Management & Client Leadership
  • Serve as Project Manager for I&C and SCADA projects (upgrades, expansions, conversions, and new facilities).
  • Manage scope, schedule, budget, change management, risk, and coordination across multiple stakeholders.
  • Lead client meetings, develop agendas/minutes, and communicate progress, risks, and decisions clearly.
  • Support proposals, task orders, and pursuit strategies; contribute to fee development and staffing plans.

Technical Leadership (I&C / SCADA)
  • Lead development and review of I&C deliverables including:
    • Control narratives and sequences of operation
    • Instrument lists, I/O lists, P&IDs coordination, loop diagrams
  • Coordinate with process, mechanical, civil, structural, and electrical teams to integrate automation requirements.
  • Partner effectively with PLC/SCADA integrators and owner operations staff to ensure maintainable solutions.
  • Support cybersecurity-conscious design practices

Construction & Startup Support
  • Support construction administration: submittal/RFI review, field observations, coordination with contractors.
  • Help troubleshoot field issues and drive resolution with integrators, contractors, and owner teams.

Qualifications

  • Experience with programming, start-up, commissioning, and service of complex instrumentation and control systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish, monitor, and meet scope, schedule and budget on projects or elements of work.
  • Ability to manage and lead teams, fostering collaboration across disciplines.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to simplify complex technical concepts with clients and other employees.
  • Knowledge of implementation systems and controls design process.
  • Ability to travel as required for project/client responsibilities and business development
  • All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Technology, or similar field.
  • ISA Automation Project Management (APM) or Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification or ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • Experience in the water/wastewater industry or related experience; experience with design-build, design-bid-build, and construction management at risk (CMAR) project delivery ideal.
Physical Qualifications
