Job description

Do you want to work with high caliber professionals in a dynamic and growing company? Are you entrepreneurial, hard-working, and collegial? Join us at SB Energy, a leading company backed by SoftBank and Ares pairing cutting-edge innovation with best-in-class execution. Our Mission is to provide reliable, affordable energy at scale to support America's growing energy demands.
Headquartered in Redwood City, CA, SB Energy develops, builds, owns & operates some of the largest and most technically advanced energy and data center infrastructure projects in the United States. Since launching in 2019, the company has rapidly grown into a top-tier integrated platform with over 3 gigawatts (GW) in operation and a multi-GW pipeline of energy and data center infrastructure nationwide. SB Energy also utilizes its strong culture of innovation to identify and incorporate new technology into our projects, including our AI-based digital platform, to deliver energy infrastructure that is local, reliable, and matched to load. We are building the energy and technology future-today.
Come join us in accelerating the energy transition to cleaner, more sustainable sources of power!
Basic Function
The Project Manager ("PM") is responsible for the successful execution of SB Energy's utility-scale solar photovoltaic ("PV") and Battery Energy Storage System ("BESS") projects beginning at Limited Notice-to-Proceed ("LNTP") through Final Completion ("FC"). The PM is responsible for the project budget, timely completion of the project (schedule), and contract compliance during the construction phase. The PM will manage Engineering, Procurement and Construction ("EPC") partners, leverage and coordinate SB Energy's internal expertise, and be the main representative for the project both internally and externally. The PM is expected to be a primary decision-maker in day-to-day project execution during the construction phase, while escalating material commercial, safety, or schedule impacts as appropriate.
At SB Energy our values are more than words on a page-they are the foundation for how we operate, make decisions, and measure success. As a PM, you are not just responsible for driving business outcomes but also for embodying and reinforcing our culture.
A PM is a culture champion, both within and outside of the organization. You lead with an ownership mindset, ensuring that challenges are met with solutions. You take initiative in fostering connection-whether by being the first to check in on a colleague or showing up fully engaged to meetings and being a magnanimous leader.
Beyond driving project success, you cultivate a thriving project team environment by welcoming diverse perspectives, fostering collaboration, and ensuring that every voice is heard. Most importantly, you pursue our mission with joy-approaching each challenge with resilience and a commitment to making a meaningful impact.
Responsibilities
Project Execution & Delivery

  • Manage turn-key EPC contract(s) for the PV, BESS, or PV+BESS project.
  • Maintain the project budget, including contingency utilization, cashflow and forecasting, and invoicing/billing.
  • Maintain and manage the overall project schedule; Primavera P6 experience a plus.
  • Schedule and coordinate the project commissioning, testing, and close-out activities (with support from the EPC partner).

Commercial, Contract, and Risk Management
  • Develop and manage the project risks, scope gap, and/or scope creep; mitigate impacts by aligning internal and external resources.
  • Assist SB Energy Legal and Procurement teams in negotiating and executing EPC contracts and other scopes necessary for project execution.
  • Maintain contract and regulatory compliance in close coordination with the Legal team.
  • Coordinate with the project Independent Engineer (lender representative) to support financing milestones, monthly draws, and financial close activities.

Stakeholder & External Interface
  • Provide regular project updates to SB Energy leadership and external partners.
  • Interface with landowners, public utilities, and power purchasers to ensure conditions and milestones of site control agreement(s), interconnection agreement(s), and power purchase agreement(s) are met.
  • Engage with authorities having jurisdiction and applicable permitting agencies to support issuance. modification, and closure of project permits, including but not limited to special/conditional use permit(s), environmental permits, and SWPPP permits.

Team Leadership & Internal Coordination
  • Coordinate cross-functionally with internal teams including Development, Power Marketing, Interconnection, Engineering, Capital Markets, Permitting, Procurement, Quality, Real Estate, Safety, O&M, and Asset Management to ensure project success.
  • Assist in the hand-off of the project from the Development team to the Projects team at LNTP and manage the hand-off of the project to the O&M and Asset Management teams at Final Completion.
  • Directly manage project specific Project Coordinator(s), delegating responsibilities and providing mentorship.
  • Coordinate with SB Energy field teams to ensure on-site supervision and execution of EPC contracts meets safety, quality, and performance expectations.

Qualifications/Requirements
  • 5 + years of experience managing utility-scale PV, BESS, and PV+BESS projects.
  • Ability to travel approximately 25-50% of the time, as needed.
  • Expertise in MS Office Suite and project management tools; experience with Monday.com and Primavera P6 a plus.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience preferred.

Location: San Francisco Bay Area, San Diego, CA; Denver, CO; Austin, TX. Hybrid.
Base Pay - $140,000 - $165,000
The pay range mentioned above is a guideline. We tailor each offer based on your unique skills, experience, location, and market benchmarks-while ensuring internal parity across our teams.
