2nd Shift Position  Hours:  4:00 pm - 2:30 am  Monday - Thursday and occasional Friday's   

Job Summary:  The objective is to keep a constant flow of logs are provided to the Saw. Logs are fed to the saw on chains. The operator controls the boxes and mantains and watches the logs keeping them straight as they enter the saw and then the flipper. The box and knives then shave the logs into shavings that then transfer to the production facility. The operator is to perform general maintenance of the saw and auger which includes changing knives.

Essential Duties, Responsibilities, Expectations and Performance Measures:

     The Operator continually monitors the log flow into the operation.  This is includes but is not limited to:

  • Monitoring log quality to ensure standards are met
  • Overseeing the flow of logs entering the sawmill
  • Inspecting logs for any foreign objects - remove with proper equipment and safety standards
  • Visually monitor the video screens showing infeed chains, inside the log deck, residual conveyors
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge/Skills/Education and Continuous Training:

  • Lock out/Tag out (Training done on site)
  • Must be SAFETY minded while working in a production environment
  • Adhere to all Safety policies and procedures
  • Lifting and physical activiy is required in this position

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

The physical demands and work environment are representative of a typical sawmill environment. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. Noise level is moderate to high depending on the area of the mill. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk and hear. Requires close vision, distance vision, and depth perception. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds and is regularly exposed to fumes, airborne particles, and extreme hot and cold temperatures.
