Hood Industries, Inc. is a blend of wood manufacturing and distribution concerns that include plywood and lumber manufacturing plants and twenty-three specialty wood product distribution operations located in fifteen states.

We are seeking a Sawmill Relief Operator position at our sawmill located in Waynesboro, MS. You will be responsible for learning and operating multiple types of equipment. If you have experience in manufacturing, we would love to hear from you.  

Responsibilities:
  • Cross-train on production and mobile equipment to provide coverage for vacations, absences, etc.
  • Promote a safe work environment by adhering to safety, housekeeping, and environmental guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Learn and perform multiple operator functions within the sawmill to expected performance levels.
  • Learn to apply work processes and understand how they lead to increased productivity and reduced waste of useable products.
  • Maintain communication with other departments, management, and employees and notify them of any problems and/or concerns that may restrict the efficiency of production.
  • Maintain a clean, sanitary, and safe work area.
  • Knowledge of sawmill equipment and machinery such as: Sorter, Trimmer, Edger, Curve Saw, Debarker, Stacker, and Head Rig. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma/GED preferred.
  • Ability to understand, clearly communicate, and follow all safety rules and policies.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Ability to make decisions quickly utilizing hand, eye, and foot coordination.
  • Able to work nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required.
  • Experience in a sawmill, manufacturing, or other industrial environment preferred.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Performs tasks such as walking, climbing steps/ladders, sitting, and standing for long periods.
  • Able to bend, stoop, stretch, twist, or reach with body, arms, and/or legs.
  • Ability to work outside in all conditions, in and around loud equipment.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. throughout the work shift.

Pay Rate: $19.34 per hour
