Job description

Overview: Provides leadership and coordination of the development and activities of the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribeโ€™s Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) with emphasis of a multi-disciplinary, interagency/departmental team that unites its members in a coordinated victim-centered and trauma informed approach to providing specialized sexual assault intervention services to the community. This is a non-supervisory position funded by a federal grant from the Office for Victims of Crime.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF JOB:

  • Develop, maintain, and oversee a sustainable Tribal SART program with the goal of improving services to all sexual assault victims, with a specific focus on child sexual assault victims.
  • Work collaboratively with community medical personnel to enhance the program delivery of medical-forensic exams to sexual assault victims, with a specific focus on child sexual assault victims.
  • Work in coordination with Lower Elwha Family Advocacy Program Manager.
  • Recruit, manage, and develop SART core member participation to maintain a multi-disciplinary, engaged, and informed working group.
  • Take lead in the facilitation, development, and implementation of SART policies and protocols.
  • Staff the SART program to include planning, scheduling, and facilitating regular SART meetings for the purposes of program planning and awareness activities, coordinating victim advocacy group efforts, and case staffing updates.
  • Maintain regular communication with SART members to ensure consistent participation in SART activities.
  • Maintain a general record of SART activities, recommend changes, and give advanced notice to SART members and the Grant Program Manager.
  • Provide monthly update reports to SART core members and Health Services Director.
  • Oversight and Administration of the Grant.
  • Gather and develop data collection procedures to support Grant reporting requirements and to ensure compliance and adherence to Grant objectives.
  • Deliver data in an informed and meaningful way on a monthly basis to the Health Services Director, or upon request, to support grant reporting compliance.
  • Research emerging best practices, monitor trends, and coordinate efforts to maintain a sustainable, relevant, and comprehensive program.
  • Coordinate SART core member training(s) and assist, when necessary, with the coordination of medical-forensic exam training.
  • Assess, recommend, and assist with additional professional development and system improvement training for SART community partners.
  • Facilitate and develop partner alliances by outreach to the Community, other Tribal jurisdictions, medical providers, victim service organizations, social service agencies, non-tribal jurisdictions, and other helping professionals about the Tribeโ€™s SART program and related services.
  • Work closely with the Crime Victim Advocate to ensure services and resources are provided to clients.
  • Assume other duties assigned by Health Services Director.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Knowledge of appropriate Tribal, State, and Federal laws relating to victims of sexual assault crimes; legal terminology, investigative and court practices and procedures; office procedures to include personal computers and common office equipment.
  • Knowledge regarding sexual assault crime victim issues and community resources.
  • Knowledge of advocacy strategies and processes, prefer experience and proven effectiveness as a service provider to sexual assault victims.
  • Skilled in developing and maintaining collaborative partnerships while maintaining respect for and sensitivity to Tribal cultural values.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing; maintain appropriate boundaries; follow written and verbal instructions; prioritize tasks; work independently with limited direction, apply good judgment, and meet deadlines; establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associates Degree or higher in Social Work, Legal Studies, Law Enforcement, Psychology, Sociology, and/or related health and human services degree preferred or three (3) years of relevant prior experience in the field of trauma and the delivery of direct services to survivors of sexual assault in Indian Country. Bachelorโ€™s degree preferred.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills, including technical writing.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Exceptional time management, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and case management software.
  • Valid Washington State driver's license and insurable driving record.
  • Must have reliable and insured transportation.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
  • Willingness to learn.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Physical stamina to work in a variety of settings like prolonged standing, sitting, and traveling.
  • Must maintain a positive mental attitude and deal effectively with other member departments/agencies, management, and community partners while meeting grant deadlines and other program requirements.
  • Must be available for evening, weekend, and/or occasional travel.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment background check, including an FBI criminal background check and section 206.1 of the LEKT Handbook.
  • Strong interest in learning new skills.
  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol test.
