Job description

MULTILINGUAL LEARNERS TEACHER ASSISTANT - MAINE EAST - RUSSIAN/UKRAINIAN LANGUAGE REQUIRED 

 

  Applications are invited for the position of Teacher Assistant in the Multilingual Learners Department at Maine East High School.

Job Goal: To support the educational mission by fostering a positive and inclusive environment for students. This involves collaborating with students and staff to promote equitable experiences and providing individualized support for overall student success.

Assistant Director for Curriculum and Instruction - Multilingual Learners 

Job Qualifications and Responsibilities:

  • Must meet requirements for Illinois State Board of Education Paraprofessional Approval
  • Bachelor's degree and teacher certification preferred
  • Russian / Ukrainian language required
  • Preferred classroom experience preferred
  • Highly organized with an ability to set up and provide instruction
  • Strong classroom management skills
  • Willingness and ability to make long lasting personal connections with academically struggling students
  • Ability to continuously monitor student progress in academic courses in which the student is receiving support and to initiate regular communication with specific course teachers as well as parents
  • Ability to assess student progress and communicate expectations to students while providing overall academic case management of students
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for the following audiences: students, teachers, parents and administration
  • Support classroom learning by re-teaching concepts to students and/or connecting students to other building interventions to support their learning
  • Ability to be reflective and to make appropriate adjustments that benefit students

 Employment

  • 10-month position | Total Number of Days Paid: 185
  • Starting date is ASAP; Ending date is May 26, 2027
  • Daily Hours 7:30 a.m. 3:30 p.m. | Weekly Hours 37.5 | Total Paid Hours 1,375 
  • The total hourly wage will be determined as follows:
  • Based on teacher assistant experience with an hourly rate of $23.38 - $27.92 per hour
  • Additional Regular Straight-time Hourly Differentials and Stipends may include the following: 
    • Associate/equivalent hours $0.50 per hour
    • Bachelor's degree $0.80 per hour
    • Master's degree $1.00 per hour
    • Current IL teacher's license $1.05 per hour
