Job Title: Sample Coordinator
Job Description
The Sample Coordinator performs a wide range of sample and standard handling activities to support laboratory operations. This role follows established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), responds to requests from laboratory staff with minimal supervision, and helps maintain proper sample handling procedures to ensure compliance with laboratory and regulatory requirements. The position offers an excellent opportunity to gain experience in a professional life sciences environment with exposure to compliance and regulatory processes.
Responsibilities
- Receive, log, label, inventory, transport, and track samples and standards throughout the laboratory process.
- Support sample check-in and check-out activities, including proper storage and accurate documentation.
- Assist with the return, transfer, and disposal of laboratory materials in accordance with established procedures.
- Communicate sample and standard status updates clearly and promptly to laboratory personnel.
- Provide guidance to laboratory staff on proper sample handling procedures and requirements.
- Complete deviation reports and investigations as needed and assist with implementing corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Review laboratory requests to ensure they comply with applicable SOPs and quality requirements.
- Participate in training related to SOPs, regulatory guidelines, and sample storage requirements.
- Respond to environmental monitoring alarms and participate in on-call support rotations when necessary.
- Perform all work accurately, safely, and within established timelines while following quality and safety procedures.
- Maintain organized and up-to-date records related to sample management, inventory control, and documentation.
- Collaborate with laboratory staff to resolve sample-related issues and support continuous improvement in sample handling processes.
Essential Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in a laboratory, sample management, inventory control, or regulated environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience with sample preparation, sample receiving, specimen processing, and sample management activities.
- Ability to perform accurate data entry and maintain detailed sample and inventory records.
- Experience working in a laboratory or regulated environment with established SOPs and quality documentation.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow Standard Operating Procedures consistently.
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with laboratory personnel regarding sample status and requirements.
- Capability to work with minimal supervision and manage multiple tasks within established timelines.
- Commitment to working safely and maintaining compliance with quality and regulatory requirements.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Associate degree, technical certificate, vocational training, or related education is preferred.
- Experience with sample management in a life sciences or similar regulated environment is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with quality systems, deviation reporting, and corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) is preferred.
- Experience working with SOPs and quality documentation is preferred.
- Flexibility with education and experience, supported by strong sample management skills.
- Interest in gaining exposure to compliance and regulatory processes in a professional laboratory setting.
- Ability to participate in on-call support rotations and respond to environmental monitoring alarms when needed.

Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Richmond, VA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $18.50 - $18.50/hr.
