Job description

As Laboratory Technician at IDEXX, you perform laboratory testing that helps veterinarians diagnose and treat pets. You will be a key contributor at one of the largest veterinary diagnostic companies in the world, joining a fast-paced work environment that encourages teamwork, quality, and offers opportunities for personal growth.

What you'll be doing as a Laboratory Technician:
  • You will use automated analyzers, microscopes and other laboratory diagnostic tools to perform analyses and tests that diagnose animal illnesses, injuries and diseases in support of veterinarian animal treatment.
  • You will perform diagnostic tests on blood, urine, fecal or pet biopsy samples that we receive in our lab by the thousands, every day.
  • You will set up and run lab tests, then read and release results according to SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures).
What you'll need to succeed:
  • Do you have experience as a Sample Management Technician, Specimen Processor or Specimen Accessioner? This role will be in our Sample Management Department, where you will perform data entry, add bar codes to samples, unbag and prepare samples to move around the lab.
  • Other backgrounds that could be a fit for this role include work in fast-paced, high-volume work environments - food service, fulfillment, production, warehouse, and more. Comfort working around and handling clinical samples (blood, urine, fecals and biopsies) are a must.
  • Data entry skills a must.
  • You possess a High School diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. A 2-, 3- or 4-year degree in a Science-related field is preferred.
  • It is not required to work in our lab, but if you were a Veterinary Technician (RVT, LVT, CVT)or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT or MT), this experience and education would be a plus.
  • Ideally, you will have experience setting up, running, and reading lab tests, and operating laboratory equipment (microscopes, pipetting and / or clinical diagnostic analyzers).
  • You have a positive attitude and love to bring that energy into the lab every day to support your colleagues.
  • You are looking forward to working in a team.
  • You concentrate on the details and can work reliably and precisely.
  • You have a great sense of team spirit and responsibility.
  • Able to meet the physical requirements that go with working in a lab - standing and sitting for extended periods of time, phone & computer use, extended reach, lifting up to 50lb, and specific vision ability - close, color, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • This is a laboratory, so there is potential exposure to biohazards, agents known to cause zoonotic diseases, and hazardous chemicals.
