What is a Salesforce developer contract?

A Salesforce Developer Contract refers to a temporary or project-based position where a developer is hired to build, customize, or maintain applications on the Salesforce platform. Contract developers work on specific projects, such as integrating Salesforce with other systems, creating custom workflows, or developing new features using Apex, Visualforce, and Lightning components. These roles are typically time-bound and may be managed through staffing agencies or directly with companies seeking specialized Salesforce expertise. Contract work offers flexibility and exposure to a variety of industries and projects.

What does a contract Salesforce developer do?

As a contract Salesforce developer, your duties involve creating customer relationship management (CRM) software solutions for a company on a temporary or freelance basis. Your responsibilities vary depending on the type of project you work on and the needs of each client. You are often involved in application design and testing. You write code for the applications and solutions that you build using the Apex language. Since you work on an independent basis with different clients, your job involves assessing the needs of each client so that you can build the solutions and applications that they need.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a contract Salesforce developer?

To thrive as a Salesforce Developer on contract, you need strong proficiency in Apex, Visualforce, and Lightning components, along with a solid understanding of Salesforce architecture and experience with custom application development. Familiarity with Salesforce development tools (like Salesforce DX), version control systems (such as Git), and relevant certifications (e.g., Salesforce Platform Developer I/II) are highly valued. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and time management skills help you deliver solutions efficiently and collaborate with clients and teams. These skills ensure that you can design, develop, and deploy tailored Salesforce solutions that meet business requirements within project timelines.

What are some common challenges faced by contract Salesforce developers?

Salesforce Developers on contract often encounter challenges such as quickly adapting to new client environments, understanding existing customizations, and aligning with varying coding standards. They may also need to efficiently manage time to meet tight project deadlines and ensure seamless collaboration with remote or cross-functional teams. Ideal candidates will have a strong understanding of hospital economics and digital health innovation.

What you'll be doing:

  • Build and execute territory plans targeting IDNs, AMCs, and large hospital systems.
  • Position Biofourmis' solutions—hospital-at-home, RPM, post-acute transition programs—as drivers of efficiency, quality, and revenue optimization.
  • Source new opportunities via outreach, referrals, conferences, and market mapping.
  • Partner with SDRs and marketing to develop high-quality pipelines of qualified leads.
  • Lead discovery sessions with stakeholders including CMOs, CMIOs, CFOs, COOs, and VP-level operational leaders.
  • Uncover critical needs in capacity management, readmission reduction, or VBC performance—and tailor solutions accordingly.
  • Coordinate and deliver impactful presentations and live product demonstrations with solution engineering support.
  • Articulate clear clinical and financial ROI to executive and clinician stakeholders.
  • Own end-to-end deal execution—negotiations, redlines, pricing, and final approval.
  • Secure multi-year, enterprise-level contracts across key hospital initiatives.
  • Coordinate handoff to implementation and client success teams.
  • Stay involved post go-live to support account expansion and long-term success.
  • Work closely with marketing, product, and operations to optimize go-to-market strategy.
  • Provide regular market feedback to guide product roadmap and strategic priorities.
  • Maintain accurate opportunity tracking and forecasting in Salesforce.
  • Provide updates on funnel activity, expected close dates, and risk factors to leadership.

What you'll bring

  • Bachelor's degree in business, healthcare, or related field required; advanced degree a plus.
  • 5+ years of enterprise healthcare sales experience, with a successful track record selling to hospital systems or health systems.
  • Experience with digital health, virtual care, RPM, care coordination, or similar enterprise SaaS or services.
  • Demonstrated success in securing multi-million-dollar contracts within hospital systems, adeptly managing extended sales cycles involving diverse stakeholders across clinical, IT, legal, and executive departments.
  • Deep understanding of hospital decision-making structures, budgeting, and strategic priorities.
  • Skilled in executive-level conversations with clinicians, administrators, and finance stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in CRM tools (e.g., Salesforce) and digital sales platforms.
  • Experience selling hospital-at-home, remote monitoring, transitional care, or capacity management solutions.
  • Existing relationships across large IDNs, academic medical centers, or regional health systems.
