Sales Managers are professionals responsible for overseeing a company's sales teams and strategies. They set sales goals, analyze data, develop training programs, and lead their teams to achieve revenue targets. Sales Managers also build relationships with clients, resolve customer complaints, and coordinate with other departments to ensure customer satisfaction. Their role is crucial in driving business growth and ensuring the company's products or services reach the right markets.

What do sales managers do?

Sales managers lead, supervise, and mentor a team of salespeople. They delegate job duties to their staff and set clear expectations and goals. The primary responsibilities of a sales manager include creating a sales plan, setting quotas for salespeople, assigning territories, and training new salespeople. They also prepare regular reports on sales figures for upper management.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a sales manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Sales Manager, you need strong sales expertise, leadership abilities, and a solid understanding of sales strategies, typically supported by a bachelor’s degree in business or a related field. Familiarity with CRM software like Salesforce, sales analytics tools, and relevant sales certifications are commonly required. Exceptional communication, motivational, and problem-solving skills help Sales Managers build cohesive teams and drive results. These skills are essential for achieving sales targets, fostering team performance, and maintaining client relationships in a competitive marketplace.

What are some common challenges sales managers face when leading a team, and how can they overcome them?

Sales Managers often encounter challenges such as motivating a diverse team, meeting ambitious targets, and adapting to rapidly changing market conditions. Successfully addressing these issues requires strong communication skills, the ability to coach and mentor team members, and a data-driven approach to track progress. Building a collaborative environment and providing regular feedback helps ensure everyone stays aligned and focused on shared goals. Leveraging technology and ongoing training can also support the team in adapting to new sales strategies and customer needs.

Job description

Waste Masters is hiring a driven, results-oriented Territory Sales Manager to build and grow a book of business within an assigned territory. This is a field-based role focused on prospecting, relationship building, and closing new business in a competitive, essential service industry.

What You’ll Do:

• Generate new business through prospecting, cold calling, and in-person visits

• Build and manage a consistent, active sales pipeline

• Conduct site evaluations and present tailored waste and recycling solutions

• Negotiate and close service agreements

• Partner with operations and customer service to ensure seamless customer experience

• Maintain accurate pipeline, activity, and account data in Salesforce

What It Takes to Succeed:

• Comfort with prospecting and outbound activity

• Strong ownership of pipeline and results

• Consistency, discipline, and follow-through

• Ability to manage time and territory independently

This role rewards individuals who are proactive, competitive, and motivated by performance.

What We’re Looking For:

• Experience in sales, business development, or customer-facing roles (B2B preferred)

• Strong communication and relationship-building skills

• Self-motivated with a results-driven mindset

• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

What We Offer:

• Assigned territory with strong growth potential

• Full benefits package (health, dental, vision, 401k, etc.)

• Ongoing training and development

Earning Potential:

Top performers consistently exceed six-figure earnings through disciplined prospecting, strong pipeline management, and closing ability.

Why Join Waste Masters:

As a Territory Sales Manager, you’re not just selling a service—you’re helping keep local neighborhoods clean, supporting businesses that power the local economy, and expanding recycling solutions that make a visible difference in the community you live and work in.

We value accountability, consistency, and growth — and support individuals who are committed to developing their skills and succeeding in a performance-driven environment.
