Sales Engineer – CNC Machine Tools (USA)

Company: Jyoti CNC Automation
Location: Assigned territory under one of the USA Tech Centres
Reports To: Zone Head / Tech Centre Head
Schedule: Monday–Friday, Core Business Hours
Travel: Extensive regional travel required
FLSA Status: Exempt

Base Salary: $80k + 50% KPI performance

Role Summary

The Sales Engineer is responsible for developing and growing business within an assigned territory by identifying opportunities, engaging customers, coordinating demonstrations, converting inquiries into orders, and building long-term customer relationships.

This is a field-oriented, execution-driven role requiring frequent customer engagement, disciplined pipeline management, and close coordination with Applications and Service teams.


Essential Functions & Key Responsibilities

1) Business Development & Territory Building

• Develop new customer relationships within the assigned territory, including job shops, OEMs, and tier suppliers.
• Conduct regular customer visits to understand machining needs and identify opportunities.
• Build, maintain, and advance a healthy sales funnel from lead through proposal and demo stages.
• Map competitor presence, installed base, and market opportunities within the territory.


2) Sales Execution

• Manage customer inquiries from RFQ through order closure.
• Prepare techno-commercial proposals in coordination with Applications Engineers.
• Coordinate and lead machine demonstrations at Tech Centres and customer sites as required.
• Drive negotiations and close orders within defined pricing and margin guidelines.
• Support payment follow-up and delivery coordination in collaboration with internal teams.


3) Cross-Functional Coordination

• Work closely with Applications Engineers to plan demos, validate cycle times, and confirm technical feasibility.
• Coordinate with Service Engineers to build customer confidence in installation, commissioning, and uptime.
• Ensure a smooth handover from order intake to installation and service support.


4) Discipline & Reporting

• Maintain accurate and timely CRM entries for leads, opportunities, and forecasts.
• Update sales projections with realistic closure timelines and probability assessments.
• Record and analyze lost orders, identifying trends and corrective actions.
• Participate in weekly and monthly sales and performance reviews.


5) Customer Relationship Management

• Build and maintain long-term relationships with key and strategic customers.
• Act as the primary point of contact for customer communication within the territory.
• Represent the company professionally during customer meetings, events, trade shows, and open houses.


Performance Metrics (KPIs)

• Annual sales revenue and growth achievement
• Demo-to-order conversion ratio
• Forecast accuracy and pipeline quality
• Number of qualified customer visits per week
• Lost order analysis and corrective action closure
• Payment collection support


Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• 3–10 years of experience in CNC machine tools or capital equipment sales.
• Strong understanding of machining processes and CNC equipment capabilities.
• Comfortable with technical selling and customer-facing discussions.
• Experience using CRM systems for pipeline and forecast management.
• Willingness and ability to travel extensively within the assigned territory.


Work Environment & Physical Demands

Combination of home office, Tech Centre, and customer-site environments with exposure to manufacturing hazards such as noise, electricity, chemicals, heavy equipment, and automated/manual machinery.
Physical demands include frequent travel, operating a vehicle, standing, walking, and periodic lifting, pushing, and pulling of materials or equipment.
